would you feel like it was the end of the world if you had to take antibiotics for an ear infection?

then why do you feel like it would be the end of the world if you got chlamydia?

getting an infection through sex is no worse than getting an infection of similar severity any other way. it doesn’t say anything bad about you. sex is nothing to be ashamed of, and neither is an STI.

stigma, shame and fear make both prevention and treatment harder. replace them with knowledge, compassion and confidence and make the choices that are right for you.

Morning After Pill for HIV

I think that people forget that condoms protect you from more than just pregnancy.

And there is no morning after pill for HIV.

ACTUALLY THERE IS.

It’s called post exposure prophylaxis.

If you’ve had unprotected sex and are afraid of possibly being at risk for HIV, please go to the emergency room and ask about POST EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS.

Works for up to 48 - 72 hours after exposure to HIV.

There’s a FDA approved daily medication called Truvada, or the PrEP treatment, that is 92-99% effective in preventing the contraction of HIV.

Private insurance and Medicaid cover it. You can also get it for free in a lot of high risk cities like Atlanta, NY, and San Fransisco.

It’s the same cocktail they give to medical professionals who have had contaminated needle sticks/blood splashes from potentially infected blood. Very effective.

BOOST  !!!!!

Please boost. You may think you’ll never need it, but you never know what might happen in your life

Signal boost!

On a Sunday afternoon in late April, there was a small but buoyant dance party at the fairly new outdoor AIDS memorial in New York City’s Greenwich Village, which had once been ground zero of the AIDS epidemic.
[…]
The reason for the party? It was to celebrate and promote the fact that we now know with certainty that people with HIV whose meds make the virus undetectable in their blood (as confirmed by lab tests) cannot transmit the virus to sexual partners. In New York City, a host of organizations – including the health department and Housing Works – have been part of an effort in recent years to end New York State’s AIDS epidemic by 2020. Now, they’re rallying behind the Undetectable = Untransmittable or U=U message, which is the national rallying cry of the Prevention Access Campaign.
In recent months, a stunning array of prominent international agencies and individuals have signed onto a U=U consensus statement saying that, based on modern science, undetectable people cannot transmit HIV. They include AIDS United, GMHC, the Human Rights Campaign, the International AIDS Society, the UK’s National AIDS Trust and the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD), to name just a few.
“U=U is such incredible news that we’ve been saying we should be dancing in the streets about it,” says Bruce Richman, who started Prevention Access Campaign. Richman says he’s been eager to get the U=U word out since he learned in 2012 that because he was undetectable he was not infectious. (He was diagnosed with HIV in 2003.)
Even since then, scientific evidence for U=U has continued to mount in a series of very large studies, such as one released early last year finding that among nearly 900 serodiscordant (one HIV+, one HIV-) gay and straight couples followed over 16 months, there was no evidence of HIV infection despite their having condomless sex.
This has massive health, prevention and legal implications. It means that HIV-positive folks and their HIV-negative sexual partners can all but stop freaking out about the possibility of transmission. It also renders even more outdated various state laws from the 1980s and 1990s that criminalize HIV-positive people for endangering sexual partners when they don’t disclose their HIV status. Finally, it should serve to reduce the stigma suffered by HIV-positive people, who are often made to feel as if they are second-class citizens for carrying an infectious virus.
But despite all that – and despite the fact that U=U has essentially attained global scientific and advocacy consensus – national, state and local entities still do little to broadcast this fact to the general American public. A brief review of the main HIV webpages for health departments nationwide serving those states and cities hardest hit by HIV found that not one stated in clear language that people with undetectable HIV were incapable of transmitting the virus.
[…]
“None of the websites are saying this, none of the marketing campaigns,” says Richman. “I’ve found that people who know this information tend to be privileged, have private insurance, are often white. That is so unjust that information that concerns are our social, sexual and reproductive health and lives is being withheld.”
Richman can become very passionate when talking about how little the HIV health establishment has done thus far to make U=U general knowledge. “When I realized that the power structure thought people with HIV were irresponsible and couldn’t understand this info, I was furious,” he says. “This information changed my life, lifted my feelings of shame and being toxic. That was so freeing.”
“Everyone,” he adds, “should clearly have that information.”

Look, the only important thing to know about biological sex is that some genitals used in one particular combination and placement can accidentally create a new person.

The binary is an illusion, gender is a social construct intended to oppress us, and anyone can get an STI. Just be aware of your body’s own potential to accidentally make a brand new human being, and ignore the rest of it.

Choose The Rubber

Designed to start a conversation in the state of Utah where abstinence only education fails to teach safety to young adults.

Did you know there is not an age limit, like you do not have to be over 18 or 21 to buy condoms.

Did you know you do not have to show I.D. or answer questions to buy Rubbers, just hand the cashier money.

Did you know that a condom will protect from sexually transmitted diseases and accidental  pregnancies. When used proper.

Abstinence from sex will also impede disease and pregnancies but since we are human and sometimes give in to our desires it is important to know there are other protections out there for us.

“They always had them locked up in a glass case at every store so you would be embarrassed asking for them”

Good thing they are in just about every convenience store now. Hanging there waiting to protect.

We Like it Dangerous

Soooo… I just made a quick, near-midnight, run to the 24-hour Walmart to pick up some emergency post-coital ice cream (as you do), and nearly got caught up in an attempted robbery.

Some dude put two big flat screen TVs in a cart and tried to run out the front doors with them.

LA was outside in the car and heard all the yelling and ruckus, saw the cops arrive, saw them barricade the exit/entrance. …. and was frantically calling and texting me to be sure I was okay.

Meanwhile, I was back in the frozen section, looking back and forth between the chocolate brownie ripple and the Reese’s peanut butter swirl.

———

*Theft alarms beeping*

Me: Hmmm. Peanut butter, or….

*police sirens outside*

Me: Do we want brownie instead. …

*LA frantically calling and texting my silenced phone*

Me: Can we afford both?

*Screaming and scuffling in the foyer*

Me: Do we have room in the freezer?

*Policeman frog-marches a handcuffed guy down the main aisle*

Me: *leans over to the stock clerk nearby* Is everything okay?

———

The moral of this story?

Practice safe sex, kids.

Gather your post-coital supplies in the daylight hours and keep them on hand to avoid dangerous night trips.

Ke$ha is a perfect example of how the media loves to make intelligent girls seem dumb and bitchy even though they are actually smart and caring. Ke$ha isn’t far from being a feminist icon but the media continues to label her as a dumb drunk party girl.

and Ke$ha is all for loving yourself and equality but she continues to receive harassment from mainstream media. Enough harassment to the point that she developed an eating disorder because of it. She is an example of how horrible and sexist the music industry is.

Ke$ha stands in the category of “gifted genius”, she scored near perfect (1500) on her SAT’s and has an IQ of 140

After I ran across Kesha’s cover of “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright" (one of my favorite songs in the world) I did a bunch of research and discovered that her persona seemed to have been invented entirely for marketing purposes…a fact which is much sadder given the apparently abusive relationship she had with her producer.

Ok, so I figured that perhaps not everyone is aware that this is available to use now, especially the younger folk out there.

This is OraQuick, and it is an FDA-Approved, in-home HIV test that provides results in about 20 minutes. I’m not sure about the availabilty of this product (or similar ones) in other countries, but in the U.S. you can purchase these at Walgreens for a mere 35 bucks, and you can even have them delivered to your door for complete anonymity.

Reading the results is easy. One line you are negative, two lines you are positive.

Why is this important? Well I know for a fact that a lot of guys say they are HIV negative without really getting tested, or they base that on some really old test result. There is no excuse now. You can get this in the mail if you want, and know for sure in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Its good peace of mind. And if you meet someone new and you are planning on playing around, its an easy and cheap thing to do to know where you guys stand. It builds trust right off the bat. Being safe is not just about wearing a condom. Its a combination of many things like trust, knowing the person, closeness, and being a good judge of character. Now on top of that you can keep up with your HIV status on a regular basis. :)

This is important for people to know, I never knew it existed

This is how my boyfriend and I tested before we started bareback in together after being with each other for 3 months. It’s super easy.

I know that it’s scary, believe me, I don’t practice risky behaviors and my anxiety was through the roof. It’s so important though you guys.

They even give you a non-descript bag to dispose of everything in.

I’m glad this is going around. :) Spread the word.

I’ve used this! It was comforting to be able to do this in my own home. Testing for something like this but it is definitely worth the purchase. It was easy to use!

Be smart about the sex you’re having. Always use a condom even if you’re “in love” unless your partner and yourself have talked about and have agreed to try and have a child use a condom. Other wise don’t be suprised by the consequences.
