This Tuesday, The Satanic Temple will be arguing their case in front of the Missouri Supreme Court after convincing an appeals court that the state’s mandatory 72-hour waiting period before having an abortion violates their religious freedom.

The Temple is taking up the case of a member they refer to as “Mary Doe,” who claims the law goes against her religious beliefs. The woman contends that back in May of 2015, she was forced to view an ultrasound of her fetus and required to read a booklet that stated life “begins at conception.”

All of this was forced upon her despite the fact that she “adheres to principles of the Satanic temple and has sincerely held religious beliefs different from the information in the informed consent booklet,” according to her case summary.

“Specifically, her letter advised she has deeply held religious beliefs that a nonviable fetus is not a separate human being but is part of her body and that abortion of a nonviable fetus does not terminate the life of a separate, unique, living human being,” the case summary stated according to NBC News.

The Satanic Temple’s Jex Blackmore says Mary Doe’s religious freedom is being trampled upon.

“The State has essentially established a religious indoctrination program intended to push a single ideological viewpoint,” Blackmore said in a statement. “The law is intended to punish women who disagree with this opinion.”

“Missouri’s state-mandated informed consent booklets explicitly say that life begins at conception, which is a nonmedical religious viewpoint that many people disagree with,” his statement continued. “Forcing women to read this information and then wait 72-hours to consider the State’s opinion is a clear violation of the Establishment Clause.”

Although the state disagreed with the Temple’s assessment, a Missouri appeals court found merit in the Temple’s argument and agreed to let the case go the Missouri Supreme Court and even commented on the urgency of the case’s constitutional implications.

my utopia

I won’t speak for all liberals, but I’d like to see a future where it isn’t a big deal for a woman in full modesty garb to sit next to a drag queen in NYC. It’s become a bit of a sensation, but her and I were just existing. The freedom to simply be yourself in a sea of people who aren’t like you is a freedom we all deserve.

The central irony is that this isn’t some hypothetical future–it’s just present day reality. This is a picture of two ordinary people going about their normal lives despite how haters want to politicize it lmao. So the underlying message is not “future liberals want” it’s “people conservatives want to eradicate”

  • A European Union court ruling on Tuesday is giving employers the green light to ban visible religious symbols in the workplace, including Islamic headscarves.
  • According to the Guardian, the ruling stipulates that in order to enforce such a policy, workplaces must have a blanket ban on religious symbols officially on the books — employers can’t simply tell an employee to remove their hijab, for example. Read more (3/14/17 7:21 AM)

On Monday, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio’s Commission on Human Rights launched an expansive social media campaign aimed at stopping instances of Islamophobia. The campaign consists of five banner ads featuring Muslim New Yorkers.

Cumulatively, the ads seek to remind New Yorkers that religious-based harassment and discrimination is illegal in the city. As well as the fact that, “Muslims are hardworking New Yorkers … They are our police, our teachers, our small business owners and our neighbors and they deserve the same respect as everyone else.”

The digital campaign will be paired with a promising series of real-world events as well.

Husain Abdullah received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for praying on Monday. [Yahoo]

This is probably going to be a big deal tomorrow. The NFL can’t do anything right this year.

it is a big deal, how many times has tebow kneeled down? Has he ever been penalized? No. Bullshit. Then they have the audacity to be calling it excessive celebration, screw the NFL. Let a white Christian male kneel down and protect his ass, create a movement and call it tebowing, but once a Black Muslim Male does it, it’s flagged. IT’S ALL FUN AND GAMES UNTIL IT’S NO LONGER INVOLVING A WHITE CHRISTIAN MALE BUT RATHER A BLACK MUSLIM. LOAD OF B.S.

"There’s the three “men of Middle Eastern appearance” who were detained by police at a football match because someone thought the way they were checking their phones was “suspicious”.
There’s the Muslim guy who was detained by the cops for filming in the Melbourne CBD (read his account over the The Drum if you read nothing else; it’s mildly terrifying).
There’s that mosque in far north Queensland that was vandalised, that mosque in Brisbane that was vandalised, those Muslim ladies in Queensland being told to “fuck off back to your own country” and having coffee thrown on them, and that carload of white guys on the Gold Coast who threatened to behead a brown person in the street because they thought he was Muslim (seriously, Queensland, you are not covering yourself in glory on this one).
There’s the guy who walked into an Islamic school in Sydney armed with a knife, forcing children to be locked inside their classrooms and hide under their desks.
There’s the spat-upon mum, the kicked baby’s pram, the vandalised car and the pig’s head on a spike — the pig’s head on a spike — that have been reported in WA. There’s the rape and death threats being made against Muslim women, and the indifference it’s been met with.”

Anonymous asked:

Why can't people just admit that they cover or wear Hijab because it makes them feel good as a person? Why the need to defend it by saying it's "for god"? Do you really think an almighty being that you believe created the universe cares what we wear on our heads? People do these things for themselves and anything else is just false modesty. And that's all perfectly okay imho. I wish that "I'm doing this because I want to" was a good enough reason for people. I really wish it was.

Let me sum up to you my experiences with the outside world on hijab very quickly. Keep in mind that before starting to wear it two years ago, I looked like a white American girl (light skin, green eyes, brown hair).

I’ve casually been called a terrorist at Walmart. Twice. I’ve gotten spit at. I’ve gotten honked at while in my car and told to “go back home.” I’ve been hissed at. I’ve been asked why I came to this country if I could have stayed in my homeland (I was born and raised in Tennessee). I’ve been asked why I can’t “get with the times.” I’ve been asked how many wives my husband (who doesn’t exist) has. I’ve also been asked how my husband (again, nonexistent) let me out of the house. I’ve been asked how many children I need to have to please my husband. I’ve been asked if my husband beats me. Several people have gone out of their ways to tell me I’m going to hell. I’ve been given Bibles by people on campus who decided I needed saving. I’ve been “randomly” selected every time I have flown on an airplane (a lot of times). I’ve been asked if I was allowed to get an education (I graduated with honors from university with two degrees).

You get the idea.

Now. What part of that makes you believe I wear a hijab because it makes me “feel good as a person?” Because I promise that none of those experiences made me feel particularly great. I trust that the Almighty didn’t give me a set of rules to make me feel fuzzy on the inside. But I’m certain that He gave us a framework for how to become better people. And let me tell you, my hijab has made me a stronger person with every glare and every stupid question I’ve gotten.

So, I am doing this because I want to. Not because it makes me feel good; in reality, it sucks most of the time. But I still do it to please my Lord, The Most Compassionate, The Protector, The Just, and The Wise.

Women who wear hijab do not need to defend themselves to you or anyone else. They don’t owe you anything; they are serving your Creator.

I’m so proud we are on our the way to having the first Muslim (hijabi) woman news anchor on American television. So many happy tears :’)

This my friends is the world moving forward. I’m so proud.

This fucking disgusts me.

so does your big ass forehead but i dont see ppl complaining about it

SHE’S SO CUTE

Oh my god she is I wish her so much luck against pricks like that o3o

This is awesome. As for the above poster who is so convinced that “This is America, so why should we have a Muslim news anchor," of course you are entitled to your own opinion as everyone is; however you should be aware that being Muslim is a religion, a freedom guaranteed in the Constitution, and NOT an indication of nationality, race or ethnicity. Plus you know, there’s that whole concept that America was built on diversity and an acceptance of a cultural spectrum…nothing could be more patriotic than being proud to live in a nation where this kind of thing is normalized and I am thankful that this woman is making strides in that direction.

The anti-bullying rally to be held this week at the Des Moines Area Community College is being organized by Iowa Safe Schools, whose webpage states:

"All students deserve a safe and supportive place in which to learn including those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ)."

Apparently, the idea that kids who are different from white-cis-heteronormative-Christian society have a right to not be ridiculed, harassed, and even physically assaulted is an unpalatable sentiment for certain lawmakers.

The Iowa Family Leader, which is pushing for the Iowa state legislature to pull $25 million of funding from the Des Moines Area Community College, said of the issue:

"we cannot in good conscience vote to give taxpayer dollars to people or to groups who pervert the Bible"

Because, apparently, state-funded, public schools are supposed to be teaching people Christian views out of the Bible.

And here I was thinking we believed in plurality and religious freedom in this country.

Since the religious right seems to have forgotten, religious freedom means that while Christians and members of any other religion are free to practice their religious beliefs, other people are also free to choose not to follow the teachings of Christianity.
