I think we really need to reaffirm now that no amount of homophobia can be acceptable in our culture. There is no such this as harmless or victimless homophobia. All homophobia contributes to violence against us. You can not “disagree” with lgbt people’s “lifestyles” without supporting the rhetoric and legislation that puts us in very real danger.

Homophobia isn’t that black and white though. You can hate the sin and still love the sinner.

OK, as a queer person who grew up in a genuinely loving, caring, utterly wonderful, and still deeply homophobic Church, let me try to fill in what you’re not understanding about this whole “Love the sinner” deal.

When we refer to people like you as “Homophobic” I want to be clear what we’re saying here.  This is not a judgment of your intent.  We are not describing you as a hateful person, as an aggressive or violent person.  But we are saying that your actions and your attitudes participate in and reinforce a system of rhetoric that encourages violence against LGBT people, and, far, far more importantly, that forces millions of LGBT people to live in shame.

That’s really what this comes down to.  Not hate.  Not violence.  Shame.

Consider the point purely theologically.  Jesus tells us that to desire a sinful thing is as bad as to act on that desire.  My lusting after another mans wife is as bad as actually sleeping with her.  My genuine desire to hurt someone is as bad as actually hurting them.

So when you tell me that loving another man is a sin, you’re not just talking about physical acts of intimacy.  You don’t get to draw the line there.  You don’t get to pretend that I can be bisexual so long as I never actually physically act on it (which is already a terrible burden to place on someone).  You’re saying that every time I look at a guy and imagine how soft his lips would be, or think about how beautiful his eyes are, I am sinning.  I am a sinner every time a dude walks past me with a tight sweater on that shows of his arms.  Every time he has nice hair or a nice smile.

My love, according to you, is a sin.  That is the burden you are forcing people to live under.  That burden forced me so deep into the closet that I didn’t even know I was there.  It forced me to repress every genuine feeling of sexual attraction for other men, and to live for years with those feelings straining to get out, whilst I struggled with the constant guilt and shame that came from having those thoughts.

And I am one of the lucky ones, because I’m alive to have this conversation.  Because for many, many LGBT people that guilt and shame manifests as self-harm, substance abuse, low esteem that leads them into abusive relationships, and very often suicide.

You tell yourself that you’re one of the good ones because you don’t hate us.  You only hate what we “do”.  But what we “do” is living.  It’s being alive and whole and a part of this world, and if you genuinely believe that we can’t have that then you might as well put the gun to our heads and pull the trigger.  Because you’re already doing that, you just don’t have the guts to admit it.

“You only hate what we do, but what we do is living” Wow. This is beautiful and so well written

I just… just want people to see this. This is both hilarious and sickening.

The people on here aren’t just acephobic, they’re homophobic and just horrible people!

This is for all you people out there who think we don’t get hated because ‘Christians love the idea of asexuality’, because some of them really don’t.

Seriously, some of what they say actually makes me feel sick.

Some treasures I have found on this forum: (trigger warning, obvs)

“ Christian Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) suggests corrective rape to remedy the possession.”

“ I think asexuals are just ugly people.”

“ Asexuality" isn’t even a lifestyle choice. It’s just a cover story used by ugly people to explain why they don’t have a date on Saturday night.”

“ Asexuals are God haters. They hate God and they love their sin. Thats why they have become serial killers.”

“ Real Christian Men are the most manly men on earth. Perhaps if you attended a local Baptist church and saw the stout, barrel-chested bible-thumping boys of Christ you would be more fascinated by the idea of marriage and a lifetime of servitude to Jesus Christ?” (that one made me howl with laughter)

“ I have always considered Jeffrey Dahmer to be a great example of a Christian. “  [And later]  “ And clearly, Jeffrey Dahmer sinned. Let’s not sugarcoat - he was a gay for a long time.”  [REALLY.  THAT’S ALL HE DID.]

And my personal favorite:

“ It’s hard to imagine what kind of persecution or discrimination asexuals could possibly face.” -Said without any remote sense of irony or self-awareness.

This forum is beyond frightening.  It’s so oversaturated with hatred I bailed because I couldn’t stand it.  It’s clear anyone who is not a True Believer ™ (conservative hardcore fire and brimstone God hates you Baptist) that is white, male, straight, and cis is beneath their contempt.

After a mosque was burned down by an arson, this is how they respond to haters.

This happened in my city, not far from where I live. It has recently been discovered that the man responsible was a homeless man who accidentally set the fire trying to keep warm. There seems to be no anti-Islamic motives in his actions.

However, if you ever had doubt how Islamophobic people are and how terrible “Christians” are being in light of what happened to the center, then go take a look at their Facebook page. They have responded to every cruel and hateful comment with nothing but grace.

The Quba Islamic Institute is facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs for their building.  You can help by donating through their website (the donation button comes up if you click the green arrow on the righthand side), or either of these crowdfunding pages.  (Source: their Facebook

In a truly bizarre statement defending the law he just signed

Governor Pence claimed that “We in Indiana are just following the message of the scripture. Jesus never would have welcomed a sinner into his workplace.”

Unless I’m mistaken, Jesus has one job…to welcome sinners into his workplace.

Recently my grandmother found out I’m queer. Her response was to tell me that she disapproves of me living with my “friend” (i.e. my girlfriend) and that I should give up my vile queer ways and become a Christian (Lol). She even sent me a bible.  Here are its remains, which I made into black-out poetry.

Poem 1: Bisexual (from Leviticus 19:9)— “Have sexual relations with her.  Have sexual relations with him.  Have sexual relations with both a woman and a man.  Have sexual relations with yourself. Vomit on everyone who does not respect you.”

Poem 2: Fisting (from Judges 8:5)— “water/ lap the water/ drink/go down to drink/your hands/go down/I give into your hands/go down/encouraged/down/on the seashore/the whole hand/your hand/inside/I get to the edge/and shout/grasping/crying out/Beth/Beth/Beth/Beth/Beth/God/I came”

Poem 3: A Letter to the Exiles (from Jeremiah 28:13) — “Ze said: ‘Do not let lies name you, nor harm your heart. Gather. Raise the sword against them. They scorn and reproach, for they have not listened— again and again have not listened.’ “

Poem 4: Child (from Ezekiel 16:22) — “Your father and your mother rubbed salt in. No one looked on you with pity or had compassion enough for you, for on the day you were born you were despised. Live! Grow.  I looked at you and saw you were enough.”

Poem 5: Father (from Ezekiel 16:22) — “You never adored us. You became very angry. You took some out on us. Your sons and daughters were not enough? You slaughtered— in all your detestable practices— our youth.”

Poem 6: Misandry (from Acts 27:41) — “Dangerous men should be broken.”

Fucking beautiful.

The customer bringing the claim against Azucar Bakery in Denver, Colorado, says he was the victim of ‘religious discrimination’ because they wouldn’t adorn cakes with the words ‘God hates gays’, and draw a picture of two men holding hands with a red cross above it.

Owner Marjorie Silva called the requests of Bill Jack ‘discriminatory and hateful’ and refused to decorate the cakes, saying: ‘We never refuse service. We did feel that it was not right for us to write hateful words or pictures against human beings.’

She did, however, offer to make Mr Jack the cakes and sell him some icing so her could decorate them himself.

Mr Jack was not satisfied with this response, telling a local news station he was being ‘discriminated against by the bakery based on my creed’.

He has filed a complaint with the Department of Regulatory Agencies, which have now placed the bakery under investigation, and could refer the complaint to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission if they feel that Mr Jack was being discriminated against.

Mr Jack is the head of the Worldview Academy, an organisation that exists to help people ‘think and live in accord with a Biblical worldview’.

Since the incident Ms Silva has received praise and support from people throughout the world who have contacted her via email.

Guys please spread this, I live here and I love this cake shop so much and would hate to see it get closed for something like this. The cakes there are absolutely phenomenal, and they even have gay and lesbian wedding cake toppers, and is the only cake store that has those in all of Denver, Golden, and Lakewood. Please don’t let this cake shop close.

He wants something homophobic written on a cake, and when they refuse, he cries because he feels discriminated…

… ok

He refused the baker’s offer to send her the cake and the icing for him to decorate himself. He then claims the baker refused to sell him a cake because of his faith.

This is one of the weirdest stories I’ve read so far.

He went to the ONLY cake shop in Denver that sells same-sex wedding cake toppers and expected them to decorate a homophobic cake for him? Yeah right, sounds to me like he was spoiling for a fight before he even opened the phone book. He could have gone to any other cake shop and likely gotten his hateful bigoted way. He picked this one because he knew they’d tell him to take a hike.

You can’t walk into a synagogue and then complain when they refuse to serve you Catholic Communion. This is like that with a heaping side helping of bigotry. Seems to me this cake shop was specifically and intentionally targeted for preplanned staged bigoted homophobic behavior, likely because they’re the only cake shop selling same-sex wedding cake toppers. Seems to me they should be suing him for hate speech, harassment, attempted extortion, and making their workplace feel unsafe.

We cannot allow our bigoted oppressors to come into our safe places and claim discrimination. They’ve rigged the game, but every inch of their rigging is unconstitutional, and the more we stand up for ourselves, the more law enforcement and judges realize it. Don’t let this go down quietly.

ALSO also also we’ve seen SO MUCH crap about “wah religious freedom” about being allowed to turn people away who are gay, use contraceptives, or whatever the shop owners don’t agree with and now we ALSO have “wah religious freedom” from the other direction? You CAN’T be turned away by shop owners who disagree with you because “religion”?

I am shocked, shocked to discover that bigots just want their way and to pretend we live in a theocracy!
