This is Lana. She is about 10 years old, and desperately needs a new home.

She belonged to my sister (now deceased) and then my mother (also now deceased).

She’s the worlds most cuddly cat. All Lana wants is to be picked up and pet. She’s never gotten the amount of love she properly deserves, but has remained sweet regardless.

I don’t live in a situation where I can keep her, but I’m trying to avoid putting her into a shelter.

We’re in Virginia, but I’m willing to drive her anywhere on the east coast if it means she will be given a good home!

Please repost so she gets more views! Help Lana find the forever home she deserves!

If you’re going to get a cat, you must understand two things:

1. As far as a cat is concerned, the highest form of entertainment is annoying another cat on purpose.

2. If you have a good rapport with your cat, you count as another cat.

You can divert much of this behaviour by around this by getting two cats, so that they can annoy each other, but tradeoff is that sometimes they’ll decide to team up on you instead.

Cat for Adoption: Orillia, Ontario

Tumblr, meet Fred!

Fred is estimated at about 2 years old. We scooped him up when he demanded sanctuary during a storm at a friend’s house but she was unable to shelter him. He was unaltered, un-microchipped, and we were unable to find an owner despite reaching out to local shelters and vets and posting him all over facebook. He is a super sweet boy with no behavior problems, but we are at cat-pacity and need to find him a new home.

Fred has been treated for fleas and dewormed. He is FeLV negative but he is positive for FIV. He is not cat aggressive so we believe that with a slow introduction he could safely live with an FIV-negative cat. However, he cannot be allowed to free roam due to potential for spreading FIV. He has been vaccinated and is scheduled to be neutered and microchipped on August 25th. He has a broken canine tooth which may need to be removed later on.

He loves people and has been very patient with my toddler-age niece. He enjoys playing with our other cats more than he enjoys toys, so a multi-cat household would be optimal but not required. He has not been tested with dogs or with smaller caged pets.

He has tolerated nail clips (front paws, back paws untested) and brushing well. He tends to resource guard food from the other cats and growls when they come close, but this has never escalated beyond growling. It’s an easy issue to circumvent by feeding separately or doing supervised meals.

We are located in Orillia, Ontario but we are willing to travel for a home that seems like a good fit. We’re asking for an adoption fee of $100.

Please share! Fred deserves a great home!

A stray dog in Bolivia joined a monastery and became a monk. The resident monks of St. Francis Monastery, named for the patron saint of animals, decided to adopt a dog they call ‘Friar Bigotón’ from the Cold Nose Project, which hopes the dog’s story will now inspire more monasteries to take in homeless pets. Unexpected Benefit of Black Panther: my local pet shelters went from having something like 50-60 black cats between them to having NONE, becuase they’ve all been adopted out and named after the characters. “T’challa” is the most popular, but there are a fair number of “Okoye”s and “Shuri”s as well.

…and one very confused Elderly Humane Society Volunteer wondering why someone would name such a sweet cat “Killmonger”.

Get this glitter orange and black enamel ADOPT DON’T SHOP pin from LIVE SICK, DIE ILL shop!

ADOPT DON’T SHOP!  Adopting a pet eliminates the need for cruel puppy farms, means your pet is already vaxed and fixed (another super important thing to ensure all you’re pets are) when you get them, and you’ll be giving an animal otherwise on death row a chance at life.

These few facts are just the beginning. If you can foster an animal I would recommend highly it. If you can’t just wearing this pin sends the message loud and proud.

This was meant to be a quick warm up, but it turned into a comic that I’ve wanted to draw for a while. This is something that is extremely important to me, and I appreciate it if you read it.

A while ago, I heard a story that broke my heart. A family went a cat shelter to adopt. The daughter fell in love with a 3-legged cat. The father straight up said “absolutely not”. Because he was missing a leg. That cat was that close to having a family that loved him, but the missing leg held him back. Why?!

Many people have the initial instinct of “nope” when they see an imperfect animal. I get it, but less-adoptable does NOT mean less loveable. 9 out of 10 people will choose a kitten over an adult cat. And those 10% that would get an adult cat often overlook “different” animals.

All I want people to do is be open to the idea of having a “different” pet in their lives. Choose the pet that you fall in love with, but at least give all of them a fair shot at winning your heart.

Don’t dismiss them, they deserve a loving home just as much as any other cat. They still purr, they still love a warm lap, they still play, they still love you. Trust me, next time you are in the market for a new kitty, just go over to that one cat that’s missing an eye and see what he’s all about!

Let me tell to you a thing.

This is Lenore. I first saw her in a little cage at the Petco I frequent (I used to take my parents’ dog in for puppy play time), and she looked like the grouchiest, old, crotchety cat in the world, and I fell instantly in love. She was cranky, she was anti-social, hanging out at the back of her cage. Her fur was matted because she wouldn’t let the groomers near her.

She was perfect.

But I didn’t have a place for her. I wasn’t living in my own space yet, and where I was, I wasn’t allowed cats. So I pressed my face to the bars of her cage and I promised that if no one had adopted her by the time I’d bought a house, I would come back for her.

I visited her every week for over six months while I looked for a house. At one point, they had to just shave her entire rear-end because the mats or fur were so bad. They told me she clawed the heck outta the groomer that did it, screamed the entire time, and spent the next two days growling at anyone that came near the cage.

A couple of weeks later, I closed on my house. I went back and I got an employee, and I said: “That one. I need that cat.”

They got the paperwork and the lady who ran the rescue that was bringing the cats in told me that Lenore (at the time, Lila) was 8 years old, had been owned by an elderly lady who had died, and brought in to a different rescue, who’d had her for six months on top of the time I’d been seeing her at Petco.

This kitty had been living in a 3x3’ cube for over a YEAR because she was older and “less adoptable.”

I signed the paperwork, put her in a cat carrier, and drove her to my new home. I had pretty much nothing; a bed, an old couch, a couple of bookcases, and a tank of mice I called “Cat TV”. I let her out of the carrier and onto my bed, and I told her “I told you I would come back for you when I had a place. It’s not much, but it’s yours too now.”

Lenore spent the next three days straight purring non-stop. She followed me around the house purring. Sat next to me purring. Slept next to me purring. Leaning into every touch, purring, purring, always purring. She still purrs if you so much as think about petting her. She’s amazing, and I love her.

So, you know, if you’re thinking about adopting, and you see a beast that others consider “less adoptable,” think about Lenore.

@ bird people in SE PA/NJ/DE/MD:

the wildlife place I work at had a diamond dove dropped off. Since she is domestic, she cannot be released and needs a home.

I would literally kill someone to take her, but I cannot :(

So I’m using this platform to try to find her a suitable home. If you’ve already had/have birds, and would like to adopt the cutest dove ever, please message me @eritated

Attention to all of my Central and Southern California followers!

This is Pumpkin and his sister Kitty. They are both about 8 years old and were dumped off at a shelter in the Santa Clarita Valley after having spent the majority of their lives in a happy home. No one knows exactly why they were abandoned. Aside from both being declawed, they are perfectly healthy. However, they have been trying to find a home for over two months now.

Pumpkin (the orange kitty) is very sad, due to his being abandoned and is leaning very heavily on his sister for support. The kind people trying to adopt them out desperately want them to be re-homed as a pair, but time is running out for their wish to come true. Please spread the word and help us find someone to make these kitties’ holiday a very special one.

You can contact Pamela at ext. 2 by calling 818-474-2700. You can also email her at [email protected]. Please visit their website.

Thanks everyone!

URGENT HELP

Meet Sana, Mana, and Loi, three kittens my family rescued two months ago. They were found abandoned at two or three weeks old. They were bottle-fed and lovingly raised, and today they are playful, healthy three month old kittens. And they are in need of urgent adoption.

Including these kittens we have five cats and an injured dove. We live in a relatively small home for our family (and pet family) size, and the enclosed quarters combined with the number of animals has caused a dramatic increase in allergies. My father, mother, and brother have all developed severe allergies and asthma. They have had multiple asthma attacks over the past month and a half. My mother has now developed a chronic cough. One of our cats has also developed sudden symptoms of asthma. Our only solution at this point is to cut down on the number of animals in our home. These kittens are at the perfect age for adoption. They are happy, easy to care for, and lively.

But of course, there’s a hurdle. We live in a small, rural town in Saudi Arabia. There are no veterinarians here, let alone shelters or rescues that would facilitate adoption or rehoming. Our cats see vets in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, a four hour drive from my home. Riyadh has rescue centers and shelters, but every last one is filled to the brim. One rescue has a capacity of twenty cats and has been carrying the same twenty cats for months. Another has expanded to the owners’ homes, and holds fifty cats. It seems there is no demand for adoptable cats in Saudi Arabia. Pure breed kittens and cats are often purchased directly from breeders – many of these cats end up on the street after they grow out of their kitten phase. These moggies barely have a chance, but I have contacted every rescue I can and asked them to put out word for me.

I am also asking for help here. Less then 1% of Tumblr users are from Saudi Arabia. Fewer from the area I need adopters in: Riyadh/Al-Qassim/Jeddah. And even fewer will be willing to adopt. But I have to try. Our health issues are growing worse every day. If they cannot be adopted, there are only two options: put them out on the street, or euthanasia. They would not survive the streets – our high temperature today was 113°F (45°C) – and beyond that we all believe that it would be inhumane to turn out three kittens. I am also unwilling to consider euthanasia at this point. It seems unnecessarily cruel to end these three happy, healthy lives. Please help me by reblogging this, spreading the word on social media, and talking to your friends. Any way to reach potential adopters in Saudi Arabia.
