okay if you’re pretty sure voting does nothing, might as well hedge your bets and do it anyway. filling out a mail-in ballot takes a minute. shit’s prepaid. or mask up, wear gloves, and go to your polling place. nothing is stopping you from direct action AND voting.
there are very real reasons to be unhappy about voting and voice your displeasure about the candidates, gerrymandering, and the electoral college as a whole. silence and inaction is a choice, and that choice is going to directly hurt your friends and loved ones and people you know.
there is going to be an arguably even more important election than the presidency happening on january 5th in georgia. the two senate seats in their state did not reach enough of a majority in this election to decide a winner, so theyre doing a “run-off election”.
if these two seats are won by democrats they will flip the senate to a MAJORITY for democrats. we will have the presidency, the house AND the senate if the democratic candidates in georgia win. the policies biden promised could have a better chance at being passed!
if you live in georgia PLEASE vote for the democratic senate candidates on january 5th
if you do not, i recommend donating to the candidates election fund! :)
HEY GEORGIA ZOOMERS, IF YOU’RE TURNING 18 BEFORE JANUARY 5TH YOU CAN VOTE IN THIS TOO

a few things -
1. tomorrow w the election results, realize that many votes were mailed in and will be counted until the end of november (x). tomorrow will not have a definitive winner. it’ll be a projection. it seems that a lot of mail in ballots are democratic party votes, so keep your head up unless there’s some kind of massive landslide.
2. voter intimidation is real and i would expect it to be pretty bad at the polls tomorrow. if you experience or witness voter intimidation, please call 1-866-our-vote (1-866-687-8683) to report it. this number calls the national voter protection hotline and they can send federal investigators as well as local law enforcement to help. it’s a good practice to record any voter intimidation that you see at the polls and write your account and report it to local law enforcement, the ACLU, local news, etc. save this evidence in a place that you will not lose it and cc yourself on any emails you send to ensure you do not lose it too.
2a. if possible, vote with a friend or family member.
3. if you are uncertain about your voter status, have not gotten a response that your mail-in ballot has been processed, or if you are booted from the polling line for xyz reasons, please make sure you grab a provisional ballot. idaho, minnesota, and new hampshire unfortunately do not do provisional ballots, but all other 47 states do. as per the linked website, it is a federal law in these states to give voters provisional ballots. quote, “If an individual declares that such individual is a registered voter in the jurisdiction in which the individual desires to vote and that the individual is eligible to vote in an election for Federal office, but the name of the individual does not appear on the official list of eligible voters for the polling place or an election official asserts that the individual is not eligible to vote, such individual shall be permitted to cast a provisional ballot....” if your state gives them and you cannot vote regularly, get one of these!
4. if you live in a large city and expect lines, make sure you dress for the weather and bring a snack or two!
5. some states will allow you to declare an emergency ballot if you are sick on election day. if you’re feeling under the weather, check if your state will allow you to have one.
6. here are the tips the CDC has for voting during the pandemic so that you can protect yourself at the polls.
7. TIME magazine has a really great q&a article for other questions you may have tomorrow!
8. please take care of yourself. avoid social media and the news if you need too. hang out with people in your bubble and try to do something to distract yourself if you’re worried about the results!
i hope some of these links have helped and please feel free to share.
Hey so friendly reminder about voting and elections that I haven’t seen going around yet but is SUPER IMPORTANT.
Watch what you wear and say while you’re waiting in line for the voting booth/at the polls. It is against federal law to do anything that might be considered campaigning once you’re there, and since we know that voter suppression is the name of the game this election, there will be people looking for ANY reason to remove you from the polling place. And they will nitpick. You have a shirt with a artistic picture of donkey on it? You’re visibly supporting the Democrats, you’re disqualified from voting. Want to wear a Black Lives Matter shirt? Not there you don’t. They’ll call it intimidation and kick you out. Pins, buttons, stickers, none of it. Wear the most bland, plain clothes you can imagine.
And then keep your mouth shut. Even the slightest hint of discussion about which candidate you’re voting for can get used against you. Don’t assume the people around you are safe to discuss it with. You might be overheard. There WILL people watching for these things, hoping to get rid of anyone they can. Voter suppression isn’t just about making registration impossible. It happens at the polling stations too. Be smart, be bland, be quiet, and make sure your vote gets in.
Also- and I have seen this mentioned but it bears repeating- DO NOT TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR BALLOT. EVER. It’ll also disqualify your vote. Take a selfie when you’re out of their with your fun little sticker.
Hey, remember back in 2016 when there was a lot of cynicism on social media about how both the Democrats and the Republicans were hopelessly corrupt?
Remember how a lot of that turned out to come from Russian psy-ops designed to discourage left-leaning people from voting?
Because I do.
Self-reblogging because I’m seeing both a lot of cynicism about Democrats and a bit of “Biden’s got this sewn up, no need to bother voting” on my socials lately.
Anyone who tells you you shouldn’t vote does not have your best interests at heart.

So. I have a question for certain persons in the notes, none of whom I will mention by name:
What are you hoping to accomplish?
All this “both parties are corrupt” and “how dare you call me a psy-op for stating my opinion” and so on, what are you trying to achieve by saying it?
Are you hoping to get a wave of support for one of a half-dozen more progressive former candidates? Are you hoping to spark a violent revolution? Are you hoping that, in the space of two fucking weeks, we can change the system enough that someone other than Trump or Biden is elected President?
Because whatever your intentions are, I’ll tell you what you’re actually doing: you’re discouraging people on your side from participating in choosing the next chief executive. You’re making them think that there is so little difference between what Biden wants and what Trump wants that we might as well just let the Cheeto-in-Chief steamroller over what’s left of our democracy. You are making the perfect the enemy of the good, or of the not-literal-fascists. You may not want to be doing that, but it’s what you’re doing.
And I’ll tell you something else: the political right in America is not dealing with this dilemma. They are voting for the candidate they have, not the candidate they want. This is what got us Trump. This is what got us eight years of George W. Bush. This is what got us eight years of Ronald Reagan, whose name should be a curse on the lips of every thinking person.
Yes, vote downticket for more progressive candidates. Yes, volunteer your time and money for progressive causes. Yes, work in the long term to break down the two-party system and its stranglehold on our politics. But vote for Biden first.
But seriously, please vote. Many states are not accepting ballots that arrive past November 3rd, and the postal service isn’t guaranteed to deliver on time now that it’s less than a week out. Here’s a fun article giving the lowdown on ballot deadlines! Whether it’s in person (with a mask!) or by absentee ballot, please make your voice heard! My website – My Instagram
Americans: Please vote. November 3, 2020.
The morning of election day in 2016, Hillary was given a 75% chance of winning. Take nothing for granted.
my fellow americans, if you have not already done so, then please destroy all expectations you have that we will know any results on election night. upwards of 40% of voters plan on voting by mail. many states do not allow counties to even begin counting mailed ballots until election day. it’s very likely will not know who is president, who will take the senate, or even who your city’s mayor will be until mid to late november. internalize that now.
Analysts are calling it the Red Mirage. Election night will almost definitely look like a win for Trump, which will be terrifying, since so often election night is the decider. Don't be discouraged by the red haze, don't fall for the mirage.
