The fun doesn’t stop there! We also have several other pieces of material to go with this episode.

First is the story treatment. These are rough outlines of what an episode’s story and major beats are supposed to be before the actual script is written. You can see interesting things like the fact that the working name for Gilly was Neptune! And that Grunge was going to turn into a sea unicorn at the end of the episode!

In addition to the script and story treatment, we are also lucky enough to own an animation #cel from this episode! It is composed of the hand-painted celluloid, the color guide for the painters, and the background. It’s amazing to think that there were 24 of these sheets made for each second of #animation!

Animation Magic!

Before each of the episodes were ready for broadcast, a team of talented individuals had to work their magic as an integral part of the animation process! After the initial script draft, a storyboard of the key animated sequences is completed. From storyboards, the action is sketched out by an animator. Artists bring the artwork to life at 24 frames per second, and transfer the animation sketches from paper to painted, clear celluloid which will be photographed against a hand-painted or CG background. The film is timed to a voice and music track. Finally, the animation process is complete.
