X has a deep knowledge of robotics himself aside from the virtue of being a robot but for him it was something he considered for a long time, a couple of years while he considered retiring for the first time, he thought settling and having a family of his own sounded like an ideal especially since he is more inclined to peace and balance. He originally considered only using his own DNA code but was concerned by the lack of knowledge of his systems by outsiders, which is where Zero comes in, having the maleability of two similar operating systems/programming would allow the offspring to be able to rely on themselves better (even if they had no other robots to rely on when it came to repair and maintenance) while making them more durable and overall adaptable.
