Kindle Unlimited

I always struggle with charging people for my books.

I fight with publishers to keep costs down and work so hard to make my writing affordable because I was born and raised poor. 

We didn’t always know where our next meal was coming from or it we could make rent. 

I have been homeless.

Amazon is a monster in the publishing industry, but I am grateful to have my work available on kindle unlimited. To be able to make my work as accessible as possible while still keeping a roof over my head isn’t always easy, but easy is boring and doesn’t last long. 

I post free fiction on my website because I know that not all of you can even afford kindle unlimited. 

However you read, however you work to expand your mind and explore the world of literature I hope that you find all the words you need to get you through everything in life. 

A few years ago I wrote a space opera novella trilogy. 

It had a lot of heart but was unpolished and did not sell as well as they publisher and I hoped. The publisher went under. The book is out-of-print. 

It is not my best work and now it’s going for hundreds of dollars. 

This is both a success story and a shame

I am flattered that anyone would think this book is worthy of such a high price-tag, but ashamed that anyone would exploit my work and my readers so. 

Please please please please, don’t any of you EVER spend this much money on a single work of mine. 

I was raised poor. 

Though I’m making ends meet, writers work for peanuts and I work a lot to balance my budget. 

I can never condone price-gouging. This book meant so much to me. I would rather it be given to loving readers for free than be sold for these rates. 

I’m allowed to be excited

I grew up poor

Not pretend, “I can’t go to Taco Bell this week” poor, but, “we lived off of Ramen and my mom had to write bad checks to keep a roof over my head” poor.

BUT 

I’ve worked my ass off to make a little something of myself and tomorrow night... for the first time EVER... I get to go to a real comedy show.

(Hold the laughter)

I’m taking my soulmatey to go see Pauly Shore at The Funny Bone and enjoy all things awesome. 

It might not seem like much 

But it matter to the poor kid who still lives inside me. It matters so much I wanna take a bus load of low-income family kids to shows. (And someday I hope to. Age appropriate, of course haha)
