Raw milk is more costly, but for a reason. It offers better teeth health, bone health, digestive health, and reduces menstrual cramping and labor pains. Plus you have a clean conscience when you go to a farm and get to know the cow who's helping you stay healthy. Much better than factory farm garbage (which is usually watered down and lacking in healthy cream).

I'm conflicted

Writers are expected to be grateful to be published but also somehow thank publications like “Light of Consciousness” that is featuring a reprint of one of my articles even though they don't pay despite boasting of a high readership and charging $9.99 a copy at Barnes &Noble while also encouraging their contributors (who get no pay) to take out ads to promote their books for the low fee of 140$...

If said publication is truly spiritually enlightened, has a high readership, and charges that much, then surely they should be able to at least offer a token payment to their authors.

I appreciate every opportunity I receive but at the same time it hurts to see publications obviously making money off of their writers simply because they can.

It is unethical.

It is unprofessional.

And though I will no longer submit work to them, some fool writer will be so desperate that they fall for it and give in again and again just so they can see their work proudly sold at Barnes & Noble.

When I first signed on I accepted that maybe they couldn't pay because they are a nonprofit, but now I know. Now that I've been through the process I want every single writer out there to ask themselves if this is acceptable:

Being not only expected to work for free, but also pressured to pay for ads in the magazine you contribute to without pay for the "good of the magazine" I didn't fall for it, but plenty of others have.

This is what some publications have become: literary vampires who suck the life from authors piece by piece

Respect for the content is lacking with these companies and they make it very difficult for writers (who are already making less than ever) to find their way.
