Dear Mister Martin ✨

I was gonna do the whole clip with the vows but I got tired so maybe there’ll be a pt2 at some point idk the radio show has so many good moments it’s hard pick which ones to do

Please!! I understood everything up to "under my pillow". What do they say next??

Their radio program was canceled at a certain point, because according to the "official versions" it was not very successful. Um… or was it because they were way too explicit and Jerry had a voice that was TOO feminine??

@arthuluart you are always so good!

Due to my current obsession with Martin & Lewis, my mother has also decided to watch some of their movies and has become almost equally obsessed.

So, today at work, she brought up Martin & Lewis to a 90-something year old woman who, my mother knew, from experience, would talk about politics non-stop if she didn't change the subject, and lucky for her, by bringing up the fact that she's been watching M&L movies, my mother got an hour long story from someone who once sat front row at one of their shows. I've never been so jealous of a 90-something year old. I've never been so jealous of my mother either, like, I want to hear the story!! My mother couldn't even remember all of the details the woman told her because of a language barrier :(

It should have been ME!!

Because 1950 isn't THAT long ago‚ but to be fully cognizant of what you're experiencing you have to be in your 90s now. Yes. At least 90 years old or a little less. If I think it's practically been a century but looking at their films, their photos together and their Colgate shows those two really seem so modern. They remained young forever like Martin & Lewis. This is their greatest magic. They became IMMORTAL in their youth.

She tended to keep them together. I'm sure he "noticed" oddities (so to speak) but if being close to Dean made Jerry happier, Patti was happy. Patti was a rock for both Jerry and "Martin & Lewis". I think she had to accept many things that she didn't like, such as the excessive closeness between these two) but she always thought about her family. The happiness of Jerry and their children. She referred to Dean as "My husband's other wife." Maybe he didn't know how to define it better… but he was just telling the truth FOR ME. And that definition of his ended up in the newspapers. Patti was a great woman and a great wife. He always said nice things about Dean. It was the other one that tended to divide them.

Jerry's haters are the same ones who voted Trump again (lower case). They are the same ones who are bringing racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia and violence to unprecedented levels in the USA. They hate what Jerry represents. A mind free from preconceptions. Americans of the 1950s and 1960s were much more civilized than those of today. And they loved Jerry for the same reason they hate him now. He never stooped to the common mentality, he rode it, he destroyed racial and gender preconceptions. Today he is hated because of the extreme and worrying wave of fascism that permeates not only the USA but the whole world (including Italy). He was Jewish, let's never forget that.

Dean Martin, trying to keep a straight face listening to his partner Jerry Lewis on the June 5, 1955 episode of The Colgate Comedy Hour. Whether feuding or not, they still had fun with each other, the most fun each would ever have and it showed. That affection and love they had for one another never left them.

The Colgate Comedy Hour was their happy place, they could still do whatever they wanted. And despite everything they still had fun together. But they had ended up in a gilded cage and there was a need to break that cage.

I've never watched it. Any good? I'm going to find out.

I like this movie too much. One of my favorites from Jerry. He is perfectly measured here as the straight man (proving that, when he wanted, he could do that too) and yes he and Tony Curtis were really good together. They blended very well. As a child I was literally in love with Curtis, but recently I discovered that as an actor he was one of the best but as a man he was worth very little.

The live at the Copacabana in 1954. They should already be arguing in this period according to "the official versions". But look at this… I slowed down the clip on purpose. Look at how intimately Dean touches Jerry, especially the second time. And how he then approaches Jerry. It's sexy, to me, that second push that Dean gives Jerry. He wants to point out something to him even if I didn't quite understand what. But that's not the point. They seem VERY intimate just watching these few seconds. And these two should "hate" each other??

And why the hell was Dean so SEXY in his attitudes, in his physical posture, in his voice, when he was with Jerry and AFTER, especially from the 60s onwards, he wasn't anymore? And he WASN'T that sexy with WOMEN? For me, always in my opinion, according to my personal point of view as an Italian girl…

I had read some time ago, and I should still have the screenshot, I have to find it in those two's folder, that the title Jerry wanted for the film was "The Gaysha Boy". But Paramount, of course, disagreed and forced Jerry to change the title to "The Geisha Boy". But that "Gei" stands for "gay". And since ONLY women in Japan wear kimono there should be no doubt what that "gay" means.
