What I wish the She-Ra fandom was:
- People who acknowledge that Catradora is abusive and probably shouldn't have been romanticized in a kids show, but still enjoy it as the dark romance turned wish fulfillment wlw it is.
- People who believe that Adora, Catra, Glimmer, and Bow should all be living happy fulfilling lives full of queerness by the end of the show, but that Catra should be living that life away from the people she traumatized.
- These two groups are friends.
What the She-Ra fandom is:
- People who are in complete denial that Catradora is abusive.
- People who think Catra is irredeemable and should die.
- These two groups hate each other.
(If you are actually a member of the first two groups though please hit me up I would love to have an spop community like that!!!)
every week someone with literal worms for brains and negative critical thinking skills will call the lesbians from the tv-y7 cartoon abusive but go silent instead of explaining why it's abusive and that's because they can't think for themselves and their whole opinion is based off lily orchard's shitty videos
i think its a bit obvious that it's somewhat abusive or toxic?? your partner probably shouldn't beat you up CONSTANTLY before you get together. your partner shouldn't say "and it is all your fault" and then two seasons later have it all forgotten in the sake of love.
also there are thousands of opinions online and millions of posts about media made daily. you chose this one about trying to push a stop for major fandom divide to hate on. plus, you're kinda apart of the problem too if you don't actually explain your reasoning how it's not abusive or toxic??
anyways op im sorry people are getting angry at your post and their replies, me included, and i apologize for that! very sorry, have a great day or night
- it's not obvious because it's not true.
- they were not "partners", let's start there. they were enemies on opposite sides of a war.
- if you think anything was "forgotten", you didn't watch the show. but we already knew that
- i chose this one because op tagged it as catradora, a tag for people who like the ship
- i'm not the one who made the original post, why would i do that lol but you're free to write a list of every reason why you think catra is an "abuser" and how she traumatized adora, bow and glimmer, and i promise you i'll debunk every single one with actual scenes from the show, so please go ahead 👍
"a tag for people who like the ship" its a general tag?? for a mention of the ship??? do. do people not know how tumblr tagging works????
anyways:
- "its not obvious because its not true" thats not what obvious means, obviousness ≠ truth. in my eyes, its obvious because i've been in an abusive romantic relationship and my abuser was often blaming often (ex. s3 finale when catra says "the world is destroyed and it is all your fault"). I don't think the relationship as a whole was meant to be abusive, and i will give the writers and editors that bit. it was not meant to be abusive, but that doesnt mean it cannot be interpreted as such. agree to disagree on this part, art is entirely subjective.
- I meant partners as in former horde battle partners, not romantically or queerplatonically. partners as in "either of a pair of people engaged together in the same activity" the first result on google. sorry for the miswording, english isn't my first language and thought it was the right wording. very sorry, i guess i'll be more fluent in english next time lol
- okay, fair point it was not forgotten in the eyes of the show, but some characters are very quick to remake catra's allegiances in their eyes due to the pressure of the situation. netossa is quick to accept catra as an ally due to the fact that her wife is in peril. the hiding rebels in the former horde base when they return accept her, hesitantly, but then they rush off to go liberate their first town. I will accept this as a flaw for the show being simple enough for kids, so agree to disagree.
- tumblr tagging. enough said.
- tumblr reblog function. enough said.
- why would i waste more of my time on this?? agree to disagree on most charges(?) unsure if its the right words), but dont start shit like this lol, like. stay mad in your own sector of the internet and just block people like a normal person instead of doing whatever this was lol
- not everything is subjective. that's not something you get to interpret differently. that wasn't even the real catra… it was a corrupted version of her that knew things the real catra didn't (she knew that adora came from another world through a portal as a baby). but even if it was 100% catra and she still said those things, the problem here is that you freaks will throw around the word "abuse" for anything you don't consider perfectly unproblematic, which is trivializing actual abuse. real people are complex and nuanced, real people argue, real people fight, real people say bad things to each other and none of that automatically means they're "abusing" the other person. abuse isn't "someone being mean to someone else" or "enemies in a fantasy setting fighting", it specifically requires an uneven power dynamic. whether it's through money, housing, food, affection or something else, abusers use their power to control their victim and manipulate them into staying. objectively, there's only one abuser in spop and it's shadow weaver, who abused both adora (emotionally) and catra (physically and emotionally). objectively, c/a is not abusive. so no, i won't agree to disagree, because you're flat out wrong.
- the word you're looking for is friends.
- like you said, everything is simplified because it's a tv-y7 show. it's not a "flaw", it's how shows for little kids work.
- anti tags exist for a reason, but really i don't care enough about this to argue lol
- if op didn't want responses, they shouldn't have made a public post.
- so you typed all that but you can't provide one single reason why it's abusive? this isn't about wasting time, it's about the fact that you know you're wrong and you can't even defend your own "opinion" so you spent the whole time deflecting.
- spop is a cartoon for 7 year olds. if the little kids the show is made for get it, so can you. get better media literacy and have a nice day i guess lol
