Raphael’s character is really difficult to capture. He’s an asshole, but he’s an asshole who cares. But he cares in a very asshole-ish way… He helps, but he’s not going to be all fuzzy and gooey while he does it. The show and David Castro have captured that perfectly. Getting impatient with the Shadowhunters but never trying to pressure Clary or hurry her along in making the decision. The way he comforted Clary, one arm around her shoulders but no actual hug or reassuring words. The way he gave Simon blood, just tossing it onto the ground to him, but speaking very softly to him. I feel like sometimes people tend to forget how protective and caring Raphael can actually be and just see him as an asshole and nothing else and I’m not going to lie, I was a little worried the show would do that too. But they’ve portrayed him so perfectly and it’s all I ever wanted and I will never doubt them again
