If I ask you to think of a generic cartoon of a pig there's a good chance you've seen something close enough. Or a cow, or a sheep, or like a bear or deer or rhino or tiger. You know what animal that is, you can get down to the species level on that thing if you want to

But like. Not so much with a monkey? There's not just. Generic monkey wandering the jungles of South America or whatever

My hypothesis is that it's actually a baby macaque. That's the closest thing I can find that looks even an ounce like Generic Monkey, and that would make sense given that there's a few of them that have had close contact with people for a long time and are fairly common in some part of the world where there are lots of people

But why is it baby?????? Why is this our generic caricature of a monkey? It's nowhere near as representative as most of the other generic cartoon beasts

Ok got a question for any costume (esp. fursuit makers) out there.

So I've got this, yeah? It's a hollow shell for a yoshi costume made of foam covered with duck cloth and Velcro, and two foam support pieces inside.

Here's the thing, now that I've finished covering all these pieces, I fucking hate the Velcro. It sucks. It doesn't hold the pieces and as you can see it also causes some wrinkling at the joins of pieces.

So my question is. Do we think it's possible that I instead make pockets in the outer cover (that I have yet to make) and insert these same foam pieces in there? Like, rip off the Velcro, sew an inner layer of sports mesh fabric to the fleece, and put these pieces in those.

How would that affect structure? Would the pieces hold their form as well if the tension of the fabric is what's keeping them together? Would the lining pockets cause dimples at the seams in the fleece outer? I really hate the wear and feel of it as is. Having fragile Velcro crinkles every time I move isn't reassuring, but using pockets would eliminate most of the issues I'm having with this right now. I'm just concerned it will come at the cost of final looks because I want it to be as nice and on model as possible.

I think there's a general consensus that likes don't really do much, at least from an artist/writer perspective, but I'm curious to know if you personally find them so unimportant that you have opted to turn off their visibility in your notes.

Does anyone else ever think how arbitrary the days of the week are? Like. The fact that our lives are so deeply entrenched in their existence but mother nature doesn't know a Tuesday from a Saturday (in the grand scheme of things; notwithstanding our own habits and how those affect nature) but for a lot of us there is a HUGE difference between a Tuesday and a Saturday

And the fact that like

They weren't always this important either but some group somewhere was like "this one will be Tuesday, and this one will be Wednesday" and kept keeping track collectively of which day of the week it was and here we are. Today could be a Thursday instead of a Wednesday if they lost count.
