Cherry Blossoms Flood the Inokashira Park Lake in Tokyo

Every spring, photographer Danilo Dungo spends time at Inokashira Park in Tokyo, famous for its abundance of blooming cherry trees. The photographer has become a master at capturing the event from all angles, especially with aerial shots that show the pink flowers covering the nearby lake. Seen here are a handful of shots from the last two years, but you can explore much more on his NatGeo Your Shot page.

Japanese photographer Takahiro Yamamoto dwarfs the massive city of Tokyo in his series called It’s a Small World. Using the tilt-shift technique, he selectively focuses on a tiny sliver of the overall image while the rest is left as a blur of color and shapes. The portion that’s legible resembles the type of miniaturized toys you’d see on a model train set.

Photographer Gets Lost in the Beauty of Tokyo's Neon Streets at Night

Liam Wong injects a unique cyberpunk flavour into his images, casting a light upon the dark corners and back alleys that twist throughout Tokyo. His photographs manage to precisely capture the dynamism of the bustling city lit by bright neon signs and artificial lights, making one question the reality depicted in each photograph. With a distinct futuristic feel, most of Wong’s portfolio gives the sense that you were dropped into the middle of a stylish video game set in Japan’s animated capital.

Stunning Tokyo Cityscapes Resemble Computer-Generated Works of Art

Atop Tokyo's Roppongi Hills tower, visitors are greeted with views so breathtaking, they look as though they're computer generated. The towering sky deck, located 820 feet above sea level, may account for these impressively picturesque cityscapes. Thanks to the tower's spectacular height, photographers are able to capture more than just the streets of Tokyo. From behind their lens, they can witness the sunset color the sky with wondrous hues, the fog as it envelops towering structures, and the countless multicolored lights that shine out from the metropolis' skyscrapers. With all these elements working together, a panorama shot from the sky deck looks like something straight out of a digital dream.

Magnifying Glass Reveals In-Focus Tokyo Among a Dazzling Blurred Landscape

Japanese photographer Takashi Kitajima captures the same Tokyo scenes in two different ways and juxtaposes them in one gorgeous composition. His series is titled Glassporthole, and it features a diffused and blurry view of the city where the buildings, streets, and signage are fused into a dazzling mixture of color, light, and shape. In addition to the abstract images, Kitajima also looks at the landscape through a magnifying glass.
