Inventive Pencil Drawings on the Edge of Books
Galician designer and painter Diego Mallo had the great idea to decorate the edge of his own books with pencil drawings. This project titled Between the Lines, developed in two series available on his website, is full of imagination and looks deeper into an interesting starting concept. This artist who is now settled in the city of Barcelona aims to work on the subjects of identity, human emotions and relationships of power.
Portable Book-Shaped Lamp
Designer Max Gunawan, based in San Franciso, created a portable version of his famous lamp calledLumio. This new creation Mini Lumio+, was shown in France on December 3rd during dedicated night and exhibition at the Parisian shop Merci.
It takes the shape of a little book, that when opened, unveils a luminous fan of pages. The first and the back covers are magnetic to enable the lamp to be opened in 360°. This subtil object also can be an emergency battery for smartphones. This creations is available in three colors : grey cover and red spine, blue cover and yellow spine, black cover and orange spine. Bird Portraits Painted On Secondhand Books Featuring Their Native Brazilian Habitats Carved from the Pages
Guy Laramée‘s series Onde Elles Moran (Where They Live) captures the mystique of the native birds of the Brazilian region Serra do Corvo Branco (Range of the White Raven) through both portrait and carved landscape. The series contains nine sculptures sourced from secondhand bookstores within the country—tomes of the Classicos Jackson which is a series of literature classics published in the ‘50s in Brazil. The rich linen covers inspired the palettes of many of the portraits, the original colors working their way into Laramée’s artistic remodeling.
