I remember laughing so hard in the theatre at this exchange. Because it was such a shithead thing to do. Throwing Loki under the bus like that. Not mentioning that Thor himself had killed countless people in a 15 minute jaunt (invasion) to a neighboring realm after being slighted as a “princess,” nearly rekindling an age old war.
But nah, saying he’s adopted as a way to distance himself in the eyes of his new friends from some bloodthirsty relative… really?? Killing 80 people is like a quiet afternoon pastime for the Aesir. Shhh, shhh, don’t say that part, the humans won’t understand about the Jotnar.
Look, Thor, you were raised in the same exact environment. Trust me, you’re no better than your brother or father.
Wait, maybe he’s embarrassed that the bodycount was so low. Surely his brother could achieve better than 80 in two days??? I mean, they’re mortals, ffs, most of them break so easily.
Anyway, I remember laughing at the layers upon layers of hypocrisy in this statement and how the humans interpreted it.
I feel I was the only person to see this aspect in that showing. None of my peeps quite understood. Probably why I showed up to this forsaken hellsite.

I am certain that I laughed at the joke, while watching this in the theater. I did not deeply assess the implications of the dialogue until after I’d had time to digest it. But in hindsight, I was very bothered by how eagerly Thor gave up anything resembling loyalty to his brother, in favor of his new Midgardian fans. Thor loves to be loved. And that love to be loved takes precedence over the other things he loves.
I mean if you translate this scene into plain English…
“Hey, that’s my bro you’re talking about.”
“He killed some people that we like.”
“What can I say, my new friends? He’s a piece of shit.”
