No Choice to Make: Arrow 2x07 Review (State v. Queen)

Is there anything better than Oliver saving Felicity? The correct answer is no.  Of course, my feminist side is screaming Felicity can take care of herself (and does in most circumstances), but my inner Gloria Steinem needs to zip it.  I want romance novel heroism and “State v. Queen” delivers on a swoon worthy level.

The Canary: Arrow 2x05 Review (League of Assassins)

Yeesh there is a lot of Lance drama in the beginning of Season 2. We finally get the backstory on Sara, but it’s the spectacular Oliver and Laurel scene that has me cackling.

Shame: Arrow 2x04 Review (Crucible)

The bomb of bombs is dropped....

SPOILERS!!!

SARA LANCE IS ALIVE! The many lies of Oliver Queen begin to unravel and even Diggle and Felicity have difficulty understanding his motivations behind this whopper.

My Life. My Choice: Arrow 2x03 Review (Broken Dolls)

For the CW, “Broken Dolls” is actually really creepy. It’s this episode and Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s “The Gentleman” that give me an absolute wiggins.

Creepiness equals solid bad guy which equals FELICITY IN DANGER and PROTECTIVE OLIVER. This happens to be my sexual identity. Excellent. We also get a very overdue confession from Laurel Lance regarding Tommy’s death.

One: Arrow 2x02 Review (Identity)

I often think if I was online in Season 2, and joined the fandom earlier, then my viewing experience would have been completely different. I would've been more confident Oliver and Felicity were going to happen.  But I was not, so I spent the majority of the season flip flopping between confidence and feeling like I was hallucinating the whole thing.

But “Identity” is one of those episodes an Olicity shipper can point to and say, “Yes!!! I AM RIGHT!!! There is something going on with these two.” Oliver and Felicity are nowhere near ready defining what that “something” is, and neither was I, but this episode is a core building block of their relationship and the new direction the writers were taking the show.

And it’s so much damn fun.

Another Way: Arrow 2x01 Review (City of Heroes)

Season 2 let’s goooooooooo!!!! I am so pumped to FINALLY be writing about Arrow’s second season, which many fans and critics argue is the television show’s best. I tend to vacillate between two and three for favorite seasons, so we’ll see if this rewatch pushes me firmly in one direction.

If there’s one distinct difference between the Season 1 pilot and the Season 2 premiere it is FELICITY MEGAN SMOAK. She’s in almost every scene. Oliver and Felicity on Lian Yu, Oliver and Felicity at Queen Consolidated, Oliver and Felicity in the bunker, Oliver and Felicity arguing, Oliver and Felicity gazing, Oliver and Felicity in sexual positions!!

You get the idea.

I’ll argue that the paradigm shift in regards to Arrow’s love story began the second Emily Bett Rickards filmed her first scene with Stephen Amell. It’s fine if you don’t agree the shift began in Season 1, but you cannot deny what happens in Season 2. Facts are facts.

The thing that drives me nuts aside from saving paper, it's that after "saving" the papers because se cared so much about CNRI, she never again cared about poor people who needed legal help

Just rewatched 2x01 and I agree the "career change" comment left me cold. Now she's prosecuting criminals? WHY DID YOU NEED TO SAVE THE PAPER THEN? Doesn't it make more sense to keep CNRI open so at least saving the paper made some kind of sense? Or are they trying to say, "See? Saving the paper did matter because CNRI closed down." Y'all I don't know. Making sense of Laurel Lance storylines is a tall order some days.

Survive: Arrow 1x23 Review (Sacrifice)

Well, my friends… we made it to the end of Season 1. Arrow’s first season was often uneven as it searched for the magic to bring it all together, but supported by fantastic stunts and fight scenes, and a great hero's journey story.

That said, they deliver on the finale. “Sacrifice” is tense, exhilarating and, above all, tragic. In the eight seasons, the Season 1 finale still has me emotionally traumatized and is definitely my most mourned character loss on the show.

But there is massive hope for Olicity in some very key scenes, while Laurel & Oliver are left in the wreckage of the Glades.

This review is particularly spoiler heavy for Season 2. I cannot tell you how many times I started and restarted Arrow Season 1 reviews. It’s taken me the better part of a decade, so I am absolutely thrilled to say -

Hot and Cold: Arrow 1x22 Review (Darkness of the Edge of Town)

There is no episode that exemplifies the disjointed nature of Season 1 more than “Darkness on the Edge of Town.”  We have Exhibit A: an OTA field op and the smoaking hot chemistry of Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards igniting in an elevator shaft of all places.

And Exhibit B: the other show. A frigid black hole I feared we’d never escape from.

We'll Always Have Paris: Arrow 1x21 Review (The Undertaking)

Oliver and Felicity hit the casino to save Walter (remember Walter?), which provides the best Freudian slip in the history of Arrow.

We finally get some much-needed flashbacks on Robert Queen & Lauriver to fill in the holes of history and it’s a horror show. I can’t unsee what I have seen, so now we just get to rant about it.

Oh, and the writers completely telegraphed the demise of Lauriver in this episode. It just took me the better part of decade to notice it. It's all about Casablanca. Yes. Really.

Always Laurel: Arrow 1x20 Review (Home Invasion)

The love triangle pendulum swings violently in the other direction as Oliver makes a decision that breaks Tommy’s heart and destroys Diggle’s trust in him.

Does Oliver always choose Laurel? If yes, then is that a good thing?

Best Friends: Arrow 1x19 Review (Unfinished Business)

“Unfinished Business” takes a hard look at Oliver’s friendships with Tommy and Diggle, as one relationship crumbles and the other finds stronger footing – after a few missteps.

Prepare yourselves. I might write about the flashbacks this week because Shado provided an information download which was sorely needed.

So Many Girlfriends: Arrow 1x17 Review (The Huntress Returns)

We were a little light on Oliver and Felicity content last episode, but “The Huntress Returns” makes up for it. A good deal of the episode is focused on how Oliver feels about Helena and McKenna, but ultimately shines a bright spotlight on how he feels about Felicity.

Fire on Fire:  Arrow 1x15 Review (Dodger)

Felicity knows. Cool. Now what? “Dodger” answers that question WITH A GOLD DAMN DRESS.

If you thought the sparks between Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards were flaming in the few 2-3 minutes scenes we watched in the previous 14 episodes, then hold onto your hats because “Dodger” is a whole damn forest fire.

If you thought Felicity was not a viable love interest after watching this episode then you and I don’t watch the same show.
