Got any more fun Droid OCs? I'm super into a part of the fandom that is not very explored, which is Drone Intelligence. Always kinda irks me in sci-fi when they have robots and completely sweep the whole issue of what constitutes sentience under the rug. Especially in Star Wars! Where Choice and Morality and Emotions are CORE THEMES!!!

I have a couple droid ocs!

The first is “Beq” and probe droid refurbished into film/doc droid. He’s been outfitted with cameras, monitors, built in microphones and transition devices to aid Gaia in her work as a documentary film maker.

This droid is still unnamed, and has been since I created it. But she is a companion droid for my Jedi gal Avani. She assist with scanning, documenting and translating as well as any tech work Avani may need on missions.

Last is my newest droid, Argos (AR-905). Argos served as a protection droid for a since destroyed kingdom. He was rediscovered by a curious inventor who placed a kyber crystal in his chest, essentially creating an infinite power source. This kyber crystal bonded with Argos giving him insight into the force and a new sound level of sentience. The kyber crystal also powers his the Protosaber!

I think my favorite nerdy thing about Beq is the connection of Beq being a military droid turned film droid. Majority of our equipment in the film industry comes from the military.

In fact there is a huge history of collaboration between the Us military and old and modern Hollywood! (This ranges from the military giving filmmakers access to restricted locations, access vehicles/equipments, actor training and funding). After WWII, not only many military personnel join old Hollywood and became an essential part of the growing industry, but a lot of WWII technology was reused in the film industry and repurposed into tools we still use today!

Cameras and camera tracking technology comes from military development (Nikon and Kodak for example). Dollys that we use to create dynamic moving shots were originally designed to load bombs onto planes (see Moviola dolly).

As a filmmaker myself, I wanted to incorporate this military-entertainment complex into Beq! Which is what caused me to land on the idea of using an Empire probe droid in the first place.
