at the end of the movie, Elsa holds Hans under the water of a frozen lake… as the last bubbles emerge and his struggling slows Elsa whispers three words:

“Let it go…”

GEEEEZUS O_O ya know whats funny is there is a legit frozen horror film where these people stuck on a ski lift and freeze to death

look at this and just try and tell me that all three of these women don’t look exactly the same. try and tell me that Disney isn’t lazy when it comes to creating women.

I’d say that I think they just color-swapped Elsa’s model for their mom, but I REALLY REALLY don’t want to think Disney would be that lazy.

Seriously, guys. They are not palette-swaps. Yes, they look fucking similar, cause guess what. THEY’RE FUCKING RELATED. OH SHIT, WAIT PEOPLE WHO ARE RELATED LOOK THE SAME? WHO EVER KNEW! So yes, they are going to have similarities, but as you can see here, with this diagram my boyfriend and I put together, they have different features. So just shut up and enjoy the movie. Seriously, people never used to bitch this much.

The fact that you had to go this far to find the tiniest minute details in a 3-D model just to prove a point is really something. I have to come out and say, they just look like varying degrees of eye openness and tiny tweaks in the same model. Their genetic makeup is copy and paste. I will not shut up and enjoy whatever is thrown at me. I need to have an opinion. I would rather sit and critique the hell out of something until I’m blue in the face, especially if I want to learn from it. It doesn’t mean I don’t like whatever I’m critiquing but seeing the flaws in anything helps me grow as artist.

I had a well thought out reply in agreement to peanutbutterjotunheim about character design and that it’s okay to critique something you like, but have some examples of Disney/PIXAR characters that are related and aren’t near exact clones of each other, instead:

And here’s a little exercise with the Frozen ladies I did to show something that’s usually considered more important than minute details when it comes to character design, the silhouette.

What really bothered me about the look of these three the first time I saw it: the mother looks the same age as her adult children (the bottom image is her right before she dies, when Elsa is nearly of coronation age). Yes there are minute differences in her eyes and nose, but why hasn’t she been proportionately aged to reflect that she is.. older then her children?

Perhaps it’s because all Disney thought they’d need was a recolour. Perhaps it’s because Disney was afraid that a woman with signs of aging on her face wouldn’t be as marketable. Either way, beyond them all looking basically the same, the fact that Disney is too afraid of having a conventionally unattractive woman seems to indicate something about the quality of Disney animation atm, if nothing else.

I love Frozen, but I agree that this is a pretty big problem. I see the “THEY’RE RELATED!” excuse way too often to justify this movie as well as fanart of fictional children that look like carbon copies of their parents. Do not use Frozen as a guide for good, varied character design. It’s one of the worst examples in Disney history in that regard.  Children are not clones of their parents, and doing that in design is just lazy and unoriginal. (And in Disney’s case, kind of insulting to older female characters who aren’t allowed to age past 20.)

Yea I agree, I'm really gettin tired of that THEY ARE ALL Related excuse even though the movie was cool.

Can Disney just come out and say that all the movies are connected in some way?
