Idk if this has already been asked but what to do the interiors of Paul and Johns house in Heart of Glass look like? I’ve got my own idea in my head but I’m curious what you were thinking of
Ooh, interesting. Do you mean the layouts, or the interior design?
Layout-wise, they are mirror images of each other, and kind of a cross between Forthlin Road and Mendips. They both have the living room off the hallway, with a dining area at the back. The kitchen is at the end of the hallway, and leads out to the garden. Upstairs there's the bathroom, master bedroom, the kids bedroom and the guestroom (/office in Paul's case).
Design-wise, I haven't thought about it too much beyond '80s', so think brown sofas and woodchip wallpaper. Paul and Sally's house is more basic since they've just moved in, and they brought their furniture up from London. John and Cyn's is much more lived in, and has lots more 'stuff' they've accumulated over the years. This is the description of John's house from chapter 2...
He can tell that the Lennons have been here a while; it has that homely, lived-in feeling that he and Sally have yet to achieve at their place. Table lamps cast a warm, golden glow over the room, and a tatty old armchair lives in the corner, not in keeping with the rest of the house but clearly well-loved. A stack of notepads sits on the table beside it, surrounded by various pens and stubby pencils, and Paul imagines John working there, nibbling at the end of his pencil in search of his next bestseller. There’s an acoustic guitar propped up in the corner, which Paul’s fingers are itching to pick up, and two sides of the room are covered by shelving, stacked with row after row of books. Any space on the walls that isn’t covered with books is filled with framed photos and artwork; all mismatched, all clearly added in dribs and drabs over the years.

I'm trying to follow the 'one touch' method as much as I can - i.e. instead of throwing your clothes on the bed only to have to pick them up again later to put them away, just put them away the first time and be done with it. I don't always manage it, because I'm inherently lazy, but I always feel better when I do. I also stop myself from putting off things I don't want to by telling myself it's a gift for future me. No, I don't want to do the dishes before bed, but I'll be so much happier when I stumble into the kitchen the next morning to see it all done!

Oh, god - 1. Actually, that's not strictly true. I enjoy structural/story editing - taking all the random pieces I've written and fitting all the pieces together to make some kind of (hopefully) coherent story. So that's probably a 7/10. But line-by-line editing? Kill me. Partly because I'm normally running out of enthusiasm at that point, but also because I can see what needs to be better I just can't see how to make it better.

I don't get the appeal with Ringo I'm afraid. He's attractive enough in some photos, but as soon as he talks he just comes across as a cheesy dad to me. He's probably the one 'character' that I most struggle to match the real person to the version that people write in fics.

🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
Well, I'm never going to turn down comments, but the ones that make me most kick my heels and twirl my hair are either the ones were someone picks out specific lines or details that they liked, or where it's just an incoherent keyboard smash. The first because it's always lovely to know that people have picked up on the things you've worked on, and the second because the main goal of any story is to create an emotional reaction (preferably not disgust)

Music! And not just because it's where I steal all of my fic and chapter titles from. But if I'm stuck, or trying to set the right mood for a fic, 9/10 times I'll turn to music. Which is why I always have a playlist with each of my longer fics.
🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?
When the writer can't be bothered to do the most basic formatting (using capital letters or paragraph spacing etc) or they do some kind of wanky formatting that makes it illegible. Or when they try to write the accent, and it comes out all Dick Van Dyke, 'Alrigh' la'? Snot me faul' they made me and me da' sound like a pair o' Irish pirates'. Just write it normally and let me add the accent!
There's also a growing list of fandom tropes I'm sick to death of seeing (John cutting up clothes in Hamburg, the fucking ID bracelet, and more), but if I come across one of those in a fic I otherwise like, I might roll my eyes, but I wouldn't nope out if I was enjoying it
