SOMEONE FOUND A QR CODE HIDDEN IN THE INFINITE TRAILER AND THIS AUDIO WAS ON IT

Shortly after Halo 5 came out and we all went apeshit I said “The only thing that can redeem this in my eyes is 343 bringing back the real Cortana and having her kick Eviltana’s ass.”

I soon forgot I ever said this, after all the retcons following Halo 5, I lost faith in 343 and believed they would only take the worst possible outcome for Eviltana’s story, just like they did with Halo 5.

IT APPEARS 343 MIGHT PROVE ME WRONG.

Ok it just occurred to me some of you might not know Halo’s lore and connect the dots like I did so let me explain:

In Halo there’s this thing called The Domain, which is - to put in the simplest way - a cosmos-wide preservation of the positive memories of every being to ever live since its creation. Besides the Flood, it’s the closest thing Halo’s universe has to an afterlife.

However, the Domain is also a very physical thing that can be accessed mentally and with the right tech. It was theorized that it could be physically accessed by entering slipspace, which is how 343 confirmed that Cortana survived Halo 4; that the Didact’s ship entered slipspace the moment of its destruction. The Didact was simply yeeted onto a Halo, but Cortana, being an AI, was tossed into the Domain itself.

This is also how 343 decided to justify their very poor decision to make H5′s Cortana (I call her Eviltana) suddenly evil, by saying it was her “rampant fragment” that survived. Obviously this contradicts canon, because the Domain was clarified to cure rampancy, which is also a form of madness (delusions of power/godhood), so there’s no logical reason for her to suddenly decide the Didact was right and she needs to take over the galaxy and kill billions of people to do it. But as much as I hate this excuse, it does bring up the possibility I mentioned above.

The rampant fragment wasn’t the only part of Cortana to survive. The real Cortana - the one who loved John so much she sacrificed herself to save him - was also thrown into the Domain; it was simply Eviltana who got out first. In Infinite we might find the Cortana still inside the Domain, and bring her back.

“Bring her back to stop the Created” is the first thing to come to mind, but the audio gives me the feeling it won’t be as simple as that. Either way, though I doubt 343 will ever be able to wholly fix the mess they made with 5, I do believe bringing back the real Cortana is the best course of action and I dearly hope they’ll do it.
