just a little thing i've been wondering about, regarding tumblr creators' approach to engagement with their posts, so
please add relevant comments in the tags and reblog for sample size

Whatever you do, whatever choices you make, whatever details you alter; we will always end up here.
Tumblr gifmakers are better than $1mil worth of marketing. I’ll see endless ads for a show and be like meh but I’ll see one good gifset and suddenly I’m on s2 ep10 finding blorbo from my gifs
when i say i wish people started using the reblog button more i don't mean it in a 'i want more notes' kind of way i mean it in a 'i want to read about your thoughts on this particular thing' and 'i want to have conversations in the tags' and 'i want this to feel like a community again and not like any of those boring social media platforms where artists are content creators and interactions never goes beyond a like'
in 2024 I vow to commit more of my time to supernatural and supernatural blogging. amen
In the spirit of how we’ve all come to communicate the news here on Tumblr dot com, here’s this: As of today, January 24, 2024, Tumblr Live no longer exists.
What does this mean?
The Tumblr Live marquee will no longer appear at the top of your dashboards, the Live icon will be removed, and the snooze option will disappear from your settings. You will no longer be able to go live or watch streams.
Questions?
Here’s an FAQ we’ve prepared for any questions you might have regarding your Live accounts and credits. If you have questions or concerns about this decision, email us at [email protected], and we’ll send you some answers.
Thank you to all the streamers who joined us on this journey. We’ve very much enjoyed watching your LEGO building, wildlife streams, and live draws. And happy birthday, Dean.

I will be on tumblr until there is an Error 404 message in place of my dash they will have to physically remove me from the premises like someone's drunk aunt at a party idc
there are so many posts about ~tumblr is so broken, you can’t find any post on your own blog, it’s impossible, bluhrblub~
I am here to tell you otherwise! it is in fact INCREDIBLY easy to find a post on a blog if you’re on desktop/browser and you know what you’re doing:
the tag system on desktop tumblr is GENUINELY amazing for searching within a specific blog!
caveat: this assumes a person HAS a desktop theme (or “custom theme”) enabled. a “custom theme” is url.tumblr.com, as opposed to tumblr.com/url. I’ve heard you have to opt-into the former now, when it used to be the default, so not everyone HAS a custom theme where you can use all those neat url tricks.
if the person doesn’t have a “custom theme” enabled, you’re beholden to the search bar. still, I’ve found the search bar on tumblr.com/url is WAY more reliable than search on mobile. for starters, it tends to bring posts up in a sensible order, instead of dredging up random posts from 2013 before anything else
if you’re on mobile, I’m sorry. godspeed and good luck finding anything. (my one tip is that if you’re able to click ON a tag rather than go through the search bar, you’ll have better luck. if your mutual has recently reblogged a post tagged #croissant, you can click #croissant and it’ll bring up everything tagged #croissant just like /tagged/croissant. but if there’s no readily available tag to click on, you have to rely on the mobile search bar and its weird bizarre whims)
Just a reminder to new Tumblr users that we have a spam bot problem here on this lovely hellsite, so if you're a legit acount, make sure you DON'T LOOK LIKE A BOT!
If I and many others here get a new follower with the following:
we're going to assume you're a bot and report/block your account. I might give you the benefit of the doubt for a couple of days if your Likes are visible and show that you've liked some posts, but if nothing changes (since some bot creators are clever enough to like a few random posts to seem "real"), I'll block you after that grace period.
Also, even if you do have what seems like a legit blog (i.e. you do have a real profile pic, banner, title, and/or description) but you have no posts--even if you have likes--I will still block you after a few days. Tumblr's life blood is based on both content creators and reblogs, and if users don't reblog content regularly, then content creators will get discouraged and may stop, and this site will slowly die. Likes are appreciated, but they don't spread content to a wider audience--this isn't Facebook, and there is no algorithm (since most of us turn that function off). So even if you don't plan to make content of your own, you should be reblogging posts that you like to spread them to your followers--after all, reblogs are how those posts showed up in your feed in the first place.
i think we should have a custom blog theme renaissance
and i don't just mean making more of them, i also mean appreciation of them and making them a central part of tumblr's site culture again. no other popular social media site (although tumblr technically is a microblogging site) really offers this level of aesthetic and functional customization anymore. it's maybe a header, a bio, and an icon.
i remember when putting a lot of effort into themes, mutual theme "ratings", complimenting users on their pages, proudly announcing theme changes/customizations, and appreciating theme makers for their work was a norm on this site. it's how many young people got into html.
i know many people are primarily mobile users but when on desktop... who cares if tumblr makes it a little difficult to get directly to someone's blog page these days. i think themes are a really excellent part of tumblr and i don't want them quietly guttering out.
Having a new follower on Tumblr be like
I think we should have a badge for every 100 bots we report & block, just saying...
i love when random tumblr users find my blog and go through it liking and reblogging everything in a frenzy, it feels like i’ve been cultivating a nice backyard with a lovely birdbath and feeder and i’ve glanced out the window to see a bird going absolutely wild with it
