The consequences of denying the incestuous element of Catherine and Heathcliff ’s relationship are a denial of their love and a reduction of it to a pathological egotism. Imagine you're a little kid who always tries to be good, polite, and empathetic; to be enough. Despite all of that, you feel that there is evil inside you, in all of your actions.

Imagine being a man, living your life, trying to be good, only for someone else to tell you that you are actually destined to be bad, to rule hell and everything you have done is useless because that is who you really are; that's your destiny.

Imagine having the power to take revenge for everything bad that has happened to you, and yet use that power to do something good, but in the end, however you use it, will always be bad and you can't do anything, even though it's inside of you.

Imagine using that power to defeat the evil that challenged god itself, being so strong and taking control of your body.

Imagine your reward for all that is to die and go to hell.

Imagine that.
