I’ve had this blog for about? a year now?? And idk why I’m making this post other than to say how much of a positive experience it’s been. Tbh I fully expected to just anonymously put stuff here until I got bored/burnt out again, but that never happened. And that’s great because there’s so many sweet people I’ve ended up interacting with. ✌🏾🖤

Oh! I really like thinking about Winston and John’s relationship in the vampire au, because it just dials all their shit up to 11.
And much of their relationship can be summed up like this:
To be honest, this whole High Table thing is a way to keep Winston in his preferred lifestyle. Rich as fuck and surrounded by beauty. John Wick is beautiful of course, but he’s not really one to be a “kept man”.
Winston’s demand for luxury is at direct odds with John’s self-destructive antics. So at first, he’s nearly constantly griping about Johnathan not taking care of himself properly. Like, Winston will have two delicious guests for dinner, and John will practically ignore them! He’s persuasive though, and John’s not entirely immune to the charm (outside of the whole vampire thrall thing, that shit doesn’t work on johnny boy). so they’ll get there eventually.
Winston sees John in action maybe once in the early days. Some clown troupe tries to take down the Continental’s future manager while the two of them were on a night walk. John’s beautiful like that too. Not just what he does (the killing), but how he does it. His energy and the way he moves his body. It’s a different appreciation than just JW as a valuable asset. I think that’s the first night they smash for real.
Eventually, John does warm up to being a sugar baby letting himself indulge a from time to time. That feels nice, when he actually shows up at the suite for Dinner. Seeing John full and happy might actually move something in Winston’s long dead heart.
And some extra stuff I was also thinking about…
(I actually have stacks of different vampire au scenarios, including one where the movies events take place IN 1903)
But for this in particular, I’m thinking that they FIRST meet while John is already a Vampire Assassin working under the High Table. Winston is an old established member in management, and he has heard of the notorious Jardani Jovonovich. But John’s mostly been terrorizing working Eastern Europe, so they haven’t crossed paths.
Late 1800′s, Winston is charged with establishing a Continental Hotel in New York (the first one in the states). He’s on the week long steamboat ride from London when Winston realizes He is on board. John barely leaves his room, but Winston watches him the rare times he comes down for meals or fresh air. And he really is gorgeous, dark hair and dark eyes, standing in dark corners. Even around his own kind he’s a bit of a lurker. Eventually, they stop throwing vibes at each other from across the room and start talking.
John figures that he’ll find an apartment or hotel when they reach NY, (or just hang out in the sewers or something, he doesn’t really plan ahead). Winston has taken to him already though, so he offers to let John stay with him while the hotel is being built. John accepts because why not.
Quite a few people came with Winston to NY. People who are fiercely loyal to him and all that. But none of them are LIVING with him. John is though…
Winston is also the first person who touches John with real gentleness after the whole Helen saga plays out. 😢
