Waterline Pt.8
As always, this is inspired by @thelynxiedoodles who created her own characterizations of Link and Zelda (her AU is called Voice of Legacy or VOL) then slammed me with a Mermaid AU of her AU.
Also, I’m sorry that this isn’t very good. I’m not happy with it but I wanted to get something out while I had the time but I’m probably going to revisit this soon… Also, sorry that it’s so short. I’m just sorry in general.
He’s not happy with her and her feathery meal but her ankle looks really hurt so he bites his lip for the time being. Being the great friend that he is, Link scavenges what firewood he can and brings it back to where Zelda is nursing his weak fire. He’s rather impressed with the fact that he coaxed the few sparks he got into a flame but the blisters on his hand remind him how much effort it took. Link huffs as he watches Zelda pluck and gut her kill.
“What a meager thing.” He grumbles and eyes the bird with an almost offended expression. “I can’t believe you spent all th–”
Zelda cuts him off with a sickened expression. “I’ll die if I eat another fish. I’m sick of the taste..” She casts a glance toward the dead lobster laying next to him but can’t think of what she really feels about it so she returns to preparing her seagull.
Link snorts, turning onto his back to rest his head on his hands. “Still, can’t believe you let a bird beat you.” He motions toward her ankle with a shift of his head. “How’d you do that anyway?”
She ignores him for the time being since the idea of admitting that she slipped makes her both embarrassed and frustrated. Zelda soon has the bird roasting on the fire and leans back into the sand with a sigh. The day is cooler thanks to the grey sky and she worries if it may rain.
“Did you know that there’s a song that’s supposed to make it rain?” Link glances over at her with a mischievous grin and Zelda suddenly fears for the safety of her little fire.
“I’ve heard rumors that there are some songs that hold magical abilities.” She doesn’t tell him that she knows several of them by heart.
“My people claim to create it.” His green eyes stare, intensely, at the sky and Zelda glares at him as hard as she can. “Want to hear it?”
“No.”
He feels a shell bounce off his chest and laughs at the way she’s trying to kill him with his eyes. “You sure? It’s really easy. “He opens his mouth and is surprised when another shell lands directly into his mouth. Link scowls, spitting the sandy object out, and sits up with a jolt. “Rude!”
“You’re threatening my breakfast and the weather.” Zelda cross her arms and grasps another projectile in her fingers. “You’re being rude.”
“I’m joking.”Link rolls his eyes, lays back down, and closes his green orbs. “Anyway, I think I’ve got a hold on your language now.”
Zelda frowns. “What do y–” She stops. “You’ve been speaking in Hylian the whole time.”
Link smirks. “And here I thought you’d lost your brain out there in the jungle along with your common sense.” He catches the pebble she flings at him and pegs her in the thigh with it. Link watches with fascination as her mind begins to calculate. “I’m thinking we need to change our terms now.”
Zelda doesn’t speak for a moment and rotates her bird about. “As in?”
“As in, I’ve been going further out for food and I’m sure that I saw the crest of an island the other day, and I’m not feeding you out of the goodness of my heart.”
She scowls. “I thought we were friends.”
Link snorts. “We are but what is all of this going to get me but wasted time in the end?” He smirks. “Besides, pretty memories of your face?”
She blushes, furiously, and glares. “Flirting is a bit uncalled for.”
Link chuckles, stretches his tail out, and shifts onto his side. “Actually, nah, I’ve decided that it isn’t. I like seeing you flustered.” His green eyes widen as an idea ignites and the smile that cross his face is almost menacing with how many teeth it shows. “I’ve got an idea…”
Dread sinks into Zelda’s stomach.
“How about you give me a kiss every morning before I go?” Link speaks, slowly, and enjoys watching the way her face turns several different shades of crimson before landing on a color just shy of a bad sunburn.
