when I was first learning the basics of After Effects, youtubers like Mt. Mograph and ECAbrams helped a lot.  They do free in-depth tutorials on specific techniques in after effects as well as intro to after effects tutorials too. other websites like Skillshare and Lynda offer some great tutorials by really experienced designers but you do need to pay for a subscription :( I think Skillshare has 3 months for $1 when you first sign up and I thought it was a dollar well spent and it may be for you too! This tutorial was one of the biggest helps especially when trying to figure out how to properly work in Illustrator and then transfer to After Effects to animate.

Once you learn how the program is run and the basics of things like keyframing, properties (like scale, rotate, opacity etc.), and effects, a lot of the learning I did was by trial & error lol! You eventually get faster and faster the more you play with the program, so please don’t be discouraged if it feels too confusing, time consuming, or intricate! After Effects is not as intimidating as it looks :)

I’m not sure if I fully understand what you’re asking.. gifs are made through photoshop but you can change colors through multiple programs like illustrator, photoshop, etc
