The Dick Van Dyke Show - My Husband is a Check-Grabber, season 2
Ok, this is one of my favorite scenes of this show. You can see in just a few seconds not only how they love each other, but also the respect, the understanding, the adimiration and the trusting they have on each other, especially in this scene after he did something Laura wanted him to do. Something that he thought was right and she thought was wrong. And the interesting thing is that it wasn’t Laura that proved him he was wrong, but their son did. And he kinda apologizes to her with just a simply action.
But what makes it so special, I think, is the way she suddenly stares at him, she’s kinda suprised with his attitude. She doesn’t look at him as a wife here, she looks as a person that admires another person very much, as a proud mother looking at her son. And then he does that little glance at her and then smiles… you notice how fine he feels about it, as if he suddenly turned the greatest person in the world for doing that.
I don’t know what makes it so special for me, really. I think it’s just that Dick and Mary had that huge chemistry, which makes the whole thing real in a certain way, and because of that, their acting is just what real couples should do, like an example to follow.
