i don’t even want to hear anyone defending the biden administration after this. fucking unbelievably cruel to dangle a $15 minimum wage over our heads but only if we keep the democrats in power until the next presidential election. just making it as easy as possible for the republicans to reverse if they want to. useless useless party

yeah i sure hope there’s no senate or presidential elections between now and 2025 that could allow the republicans to re-consolidate power and halt or reverse this drip-feed legislative reform

what you guys arent getting is that $15 was needed about a decade ago. making this legislation so gradual that it only reaches $15 after 5 god damn years is nothing. a dollar and a half increase every year is nothing. the living wage will be far above $15 an hour by the time we reach it. this is the bare minimum required to sustain capitalism as a system - people won’t buy products if they aren’t getting paid enough to live. this is, in every sense, an attempt to meekly maintain the status quo. this is not a painful concession on behalf of the ruling class, this was a calculated plan to give us as little as humanly possible while simultaneously avoiding a disastrous economic downturn caused by low wages. that’s how this shit works. if it was meant to benefit us, we would be getting promised a hell of a lot more.

that is of course not even mentioning my previous point, that the republicans will likely regain control and halt this anyways. seems like the legislation requires approval each time after 2025, so we’re probably not getting shit for a while after that either.
