aaahhh this scene!!! This scene was really important to me in Soushitsu… I was so hoping Tri would bring us some fun Taishiro moments (at least we got some cute artwork?). There hasn’t been much, but I was grateful that Taichi talked to Meiko about what happened at Koushirou’s office. Aside from wanting to see Taichi be concerned about his teammates, in particular the one currently working himself sick, I just thought that as a friend, Taichi ought to be trying to help in some way. (I assume he was probably on rotation with the others bringing Koushirou food and stuff, we just didn’t see it…)

but anyway, as for this scene… it’s small, but this is Taichi latching on to the fact that Koushirou is struggling with guilt over now being able to better direct his friends. Koushirou never lords the fact that he’s the only one actually suited for trying to make sense of the digital world over the others. Instead, he feels doubly responsible. It was the same in Adventure - he’d feel like a failure for not managing to pull off miracles. And then too, Taichi would notice and encourage him.

I often say one of Taichi’s personality flaws is insensitivity - and it is, when he’s feeling single-minded about something. (Or, in adventure, just being a kid.) But a lot of the time he really is noticing the others’ emotions. He doesn’t pick up on it as quick as Sora and Hikari, he doesn’t feel it as poignantly as Yamato, but he’s far from ignorant of it. Even if he’s not an emotional Einstein, one thing Taichi does do consistently is encourage the others. It’s a favorite thing about his and Koushirou’s dynamic, the way they believe in each other and encourage each other. And so I fell head over heels for the way Taichi noticed, just by looking at Koushirou’s face in this scene, that he was beating himself up inside.
