That autism feel when you have met (even just online) the greatest people thanks to your special interests.

If you're mentally ill, chronically ill or otherwise disabled, do yourself a favor and consciously work to dismantle the "if you're too sick to go to work you're also too sick to be on the computer" mindset which got drilled into most of us during childhood. You don't have to deny yourself joy. You don't have to directly or indirectly punish yourself for not being able to do certain things. It doesn't help anyone. All it does is make you even more miserable than you have to be. So make sure you don't punish yourself for being sick. Make sure you don't subconsciously sabotage yourself with the idea that you have to be punished for not being abled. Make sure you embrace the joy you can find instead of denying yourself out of unnecessary guilt.
how to tell all nerdy autistics that theyre valid and I love them
Autistic people with stereotypically nerdy interests are amazing, wonderful human beings who deserve all the love and respect in the world 💜
I see this huge movement here to acknowledge, protect, and support autistics who don’t fit the classic symptoms of our disorder. And that is fantastic (it is a spectrum after all), but we can’t let the stereotypical autistics fall through the cracks in the process.
So here’s to the stereotypical autistics:
- Those of us who are socially awkward and come off as being rude.
- Those of us whose special interests are things like planes, trains, maths, and physics.
- The autistics who relate to animals, aliens, and robots more than other people.
- The autistics with low empathy.
- Those who can’t stand being touched.
- Those who want to eat the same foods every day.
We are all fantastic. Just because we are the object of every joke about autistic people and the source of every trope doesn’t mean we aren’t valid people with individual personalities.
