Like, why does it gotta be so damn hard just to exist as an androgynous person. Stop calling me wearing a women’s cardigan “feminine” when I am very clearly wearing androgynous and masculine stuff with it. Stop hen pecking trans men’s wardrobes like “hmm, I’m not sure a man would wear that!” Stop asking people if they’re transmasc or transfeminine when you clearly have no fucking idea what that even means. Same with “alignment.” Quit analyzing trans and nb people and getting upset when they aren’t clearly identifiable as a single binary gender presentation! That’s the point! That’s why androgyny is a thing. Leave androgynous nb and trans people a l o n e we have literally done nothing to you by presenting androgynously.

i get that it’s a lot easier for some of y'all to make arguments against ships you hate if you pretend everyone who ships it is “cishet” but there is not a single popular pairing that exists where the majority of the fanbase is entirely devoid of lgbtqia+ people, particularly when we’re talking about fandoms on tumblr where there is a large lgbtqia+ demographic. talking over lgbtqia+ people, stuffing your fingers in your ears, and going “lalala can’t hear these nasty cishets” and willfully denying their orientation and gender identities is an entirely shitty thing to do.

Okay: have you considered these terms are aimed at non-binaries who don’t use binary alignment terminology (male aligned/female aligned) and see no positivity of themselves, no posts getting cute women and men supporting them, supporting relationships with them, talking about their attraction & crushes on someone who is nb, or their partners, who deserve to feel gushed over, and have positivity too?

Have you considered never seeing any content aimed at us makes us feel unattractive and unlovable? Have you considered few want to misgender themselves into a binary category just to receive this? Have you considered binary trans men and women can also be attracted to us when you go on about fetishizing trans people?

Have you considered calling yourself attracted to a nb person doesn’t mean you’re saying you’d be interested in Literally Every NB Person or that nb is one gender? Have you considered most if not all wlnb/mlnb posts i’ve seen so far were made by nbs themselves, OR their partners directed at their nb partner.

Have you considered if it doesn’t apply to you don’t use it? Have you considered, maybe, this wasn’t really intended for you? Have you considered letting nonbinary people who don’t align to the binary have this One Thing for once?

Tumblr has honestly taken like 5 steps back recently with regards to the really basic 101 concept of not assuming the genders of people you don’t know based solely on their appearance and the worst part is that a lot of y'all doing it don’t even realize it—you genuinely think that assuming every feminine nonbinary person you see is “woman-aligned” and every masculine nonbinary person you see is “man-aligned” is okay, that it’s being inclusive to all nonbinary people but it isn’t. You erase and misgender so many nonbinary people by doing this, just as much as you would if you just assumed everyone around you is either a man or a woman based on how they look. Adding -aligned to that doesn’t make it any better.

If theyre more creative they may even compare them to other gnc people they think are actually hot or draw attention to ways the ppl theyre making fun of are not oppressed for extra Good Social Justice Points bc clearly that makes it all better!

I’m actually super glad we’re having a conversation about this. The masculinization of black and brown women, because for years I felt like I endured this unique form of trauma until I realized other people went through the same thing too. And if there’s one thing that I’d like to add to the conversation, there seems to be this misconception that this is something that starts at puberty. Like boys tell you you look like a man to hurt your feeling when that’s so far from the case.

The first time I was purposefully misgendered was in kindergarten. I was constantly referred to by the masculine variant of my name, I was chased out of the women’s restroom, and I had grown adults questioning what my biological sex was before I even knew what the difference was. And those behaviors persisted into adulthood because now if I present as anything less than 100% feminine, people will either compare me to men or animals.

And for myself and for many other brown and black women this is a life long act deliberately intended to humiliate, shame, and other us for the features we were naturally born with and I’m glad we’re having a discussion on how harmful it actually is.]
