white women are always like “more strong kickass female leads!” and when i say i want to see a black female love interest who is allowed to be girly and fall in love they give me weird looks and say that i’m supporting gender stereotypes and heteronormativity but what a lot of white women don’t get is that black women we’ve had hundreds of years of having our femininity ripped from us, of being deemed unworthy of male (especially non-black male) attention. black women in media are never allowed to be the “cute” ones or the love interest, we’ve always been the “strong kickass street smart woman” trope that white women want so badly. so basically if a black girl says she wants to see another black girl fulfill the role of “love interest” there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that and it isn’t a hindrance to feminism

I actually feel this post so hard because as a black woman I know I’m never seen as soft or cute or girly or feminine or fragile because I’m not a white blonde waif even if we both wear the same white dress and put the same flowers in our hair I am not viewed as cute and maidenly and that’s so fucked

Things with no gay/queer rep can be progressive and groundbreaking actually and need to be part of the discussion of representation in media

Like,,,,

A show about an interracial disabled couple (that’s written well) is just as progressive as a show about two gay characters

A show with multiple well written POC characters, especially in leading roles, is progressive and should be part of the discussion

Representation has never only meant queer rep.

And I hate that so many of POC and disabled people see that shows and books that represent them, not get included or acknowledge in the discussion about representation.

Just because something doesn’t represent you, doesn’t mean it’s not representing someone else.

Yes queer rep is good, of course it is (I’m neither cis nor het) but I can not begin to understand how so many of you will just,,,ignore shows that represent POC and/or disabled people in a well written and positive way because it’s not what you are. Or tell us that when we mention them as good examples of rep that it’s not really representation.

The world exist outside of you and your experience.

One of the most psychologically-demanding things with antisemitism is that you’re constantly being gaslit about it.  Antisemitism is EVERYWHERE. It never stops, and it comes from all angles and all sides of the political spectrum. There are so many different ways to be antisemitic and only a handful are widely recognized, usually only the most egregious and obvious examples. Jewish issues are often left out of activism, intersectionality is ignored and acts of more casual antisemitism are not taken seriously or considered worth addressing. People still have this idea that Jewish activism is somehow in competition with other activism and must be pushed to the side, or put directly at odds with another group in order to paint Jewish people as the bad guys and avoid anything they might have to say.

As a result, Jewish people in activist spaces CONSTANTLY have to juggle their identity, deciding whether or not identifying as Jewish will help or hurt them in a situation, praying they’re heard and taken seriously, or if they will be subjected to a gauntlet of tests to decide if their voice is “valid” enough to be counted. Even (and especially) on Jewish issues. When casual antisemitism happens, Jewish people have nowhere to turn because the ones moderating the space or keeping order don’t see it or take it seriously, or are the ones perpetuating it themselves. Welcoming spaces become hostile overnight. It’s like getting hit with tons of teeny tiny pebbles every single day, and then occasionally you’re hit with a rock. You tell somebody about the rock, but they don’t see it because it wasn’t a boulder. You’re told you’re being oversensitive, that it didn’t happen, that you’re selfish for complaining about the rock. You know better than to even mention the onslaught of pebbles at this point because you’ll get laughed out of the room.

I think I’m going to take a break from the internet for a little while.
