ok but does the character really need to be a straight white man? is that relevant to the plot or are we just catering to the audience? it’s forced representation like this that detracts from the storylines that really matter

I just don’t understand though, how can a character be straight, white, cis, male, able-bodied AND Neurotypical at the same time??? Why do they need so many labels??? Seems fake to me

Okay: have you considered these terms are aimed at non-binaries who don’t use binary alignment terminology (male aligned/female aligned) and see no positivity of themselves, no posts getting cute women and men supporting them, supporting relationships with them, talking about their attraction & crushes on someone who is nb, or their partners, who deserve to feel gushed over, and have positivity too?

Have you considered never seeing any content aimed at us makes us feel unattractive and unlovable? Have you considered few want to misgender themselves into a binary category just to receive this? Have you considered binary trans men and women can also be attracted to us when you go on about fetishizing trans people?

Have you considered calling yourself attracted to a nb person doesn’t mean you’re saying you’d be interested in Literally Every NB Person or that nb is one gender? Have you considered most if not all wlnb/mlnb posts i’ve seen so far were made by nbs themselves, OR their partners directed at their nb partner.

Have you considered if it doesn’t apply to you don’t use it? Have you considered, maybe, this wasn’t really intended for you? Have you considered letting nonbinary people who don’t align to the binary have this One Thing for once?

Like, this isn’t just “internet discourse.” Its not even just a toxic bullying movement. Its widespread HATRED for an entire group. Y'all cling to your justifications that you think are entirely reasonable just like every other bigot in history has, but fact of the matter is you hate an entire group of people for existing, and you make it known, you hurt them.

How many people justified abusing me as a bisexual because “all bisexuals are cheaters, are sluts, are actually straight.” How many goddamn people thought that they were doing the RIGHT thing by condemning trans rights because trans people “are all predators trying to go in the wrong bathrooms, obviously,” and “are x gender trying to invade spaces that don’t belong to them.” And how many of those people thought they were entirely RIGHT and their behavior was excused because everyone they surrounded themselves with was/is doing it too?

How many of you are 100% convinced that every time you shit on aces its completely ok because “they’re all inherently homophobic, the whole community is bad, they’re all actually straight anyway,” and are encouraged because your peers do it too?

Let me spell it out. You. Are. Hating. An. Entire. Orientation. Because. Its. Popular. To. Do. And. You. Justify. It. With. The. Same. Slandering. Tactics. That. Get. Used. By. Every. Other. Oppressor.

You ABUSE and DISCRIMINATE and somehow it never crosses your small minds that maybe that’s never an ok thing to do? That people being born different than you is not a threat and they don’t deserve to be treated with mass bullying for existing?

The culture on this site (primarily made up of teenagers and young adults,) is nothing other than digital high school where the kids who have been educated about social justice have learned how to weaponize the popular sj language to continue the same bullying of vulnerable groups while pretending they’re still good people, because they made up an EXCUSE. You’re all still bullies and bigots though. None of your pathetic rhetoric will change that.

binary people need to realize that no one is asking y'all to remember the names and definitions of every nonbinary label that exists. there aren’t any nonbinary folks out here hiding behind the bushes, just waiting to ambush y'all and give you a spelling test. we don’t carry pop quizzes in our back pockets just waiting to pull them out and interrogate you about what this word or that word means.

i doubt there are even any nonbinary people who remember all of the labels nbs can use—i know i don’t! i have the memory of a damn goldfish and i have to use google every time someone makes a request on this blog for posts about certain identities because there are only like 5 i can confidently remember how to spell and define on any given day.

our labels are not for you or about you, they are for us. they are for our own personal use. they are for our piece of mind from being able to put a name to our experiences. all we want from you is to be treated with basic decency, to believe us when we say we are what we are, and to not try to argue with us like you know what we feel and what we need better than we do.

what we don’t want is you asking us, indignant and aghast like the hundred other binary folks before you, “but how can you expect me to POSSIBLY remember all those labels?!” before you walk off in a huff and go on to treat nonbinary like crap and deny we even exist because widening your worldview a bit is too much work — we are not asking you to remember jackshit except for how to treat others how you’d want to be treated.

It's weird how tumblr forgets that society hates and punishes gender-noncomforming men. Gender non-conforming men face hatred and risks of violence in most spaces. It's still controversial for celebrity men to wear dresses. Mocking "Men in dresses" is a transmisogynistic trope and I don't want to take away from or lessen that, but it also targets gender non-conforming men. Many issues around gender and sexuality can't be carefully delineated out as affecting only one group, they often affect many different groups in many different ways.

Gender non-conforming men are constantly demeaned, mocked, and scrutinized. Even support of gender non-conforming men is often patronizing, infantilising, or sexualizing. I'm a gnc trans man and I often see discussions around how it can be harder to pass and the transphobia aimed at gnc trans men for not "trying hard enough" or being accused of being "transtrenders" and it's true. But it's not my whole experience. Every time I see someone mock or belittle gnc men I am reminded that that's the kind of man I am. I know if I do manage to pass/go stealth (which is entirely possible for gnc trans men, depending on many factors and how they express gender non-conformance!) I have to consider homophobic discrimination and potential violence for being gnc. Every step I take toward a body that better fits me, I'm reminded of the hatred and disgust toward people like me in masculine bodies. It's not just a problem in trans spaces.

Tumblr and LGBTQ+ intracommunity discourse can get a bit separated from reality and forget that gnc people are not treated well or privileged by stuff. I feel like I don't see my actual reality reflected in the discourse here, so here's both a reminder and an attempt to reach out to people that feel as I do: it's hard being a gender non-conforming person regardless of if you're trans or cis. It's okay and good to be gnc. Gnc people are brave and good.

it’s okay to have lots of nonbinary headcaons about your favorite fictional characters!

you don’t need to justify why you headcanon a character as being nonbinary, you don’t need to make a full-on powerpoint giving ‘evidence’ to support your headcanon, and you don’t need to have an explanation for your headcanon that goes beyond just wanting more nonbinary representation in the media you enjoy. it’s okay to headcanon a character as being nonbinary just because you want to or because you see something of your own identity in them. no further reasons are needed.
