Crunchyroll is firing and recasting Mob Psycho 100 Voice Actors and Staff to stop unionization efforts.

Kyle McCarley, the English Dub VA for Mob, helped organize his coworkers and is almost certainly not returning for season 3. The ADR Director of both previous seasons has also confirmed that he will not be returning to the project. If you like Mob Psycho 100, consider pirating it instead of watching it on official platforms. Also consider contacting Crunchyroll and voicing how awful it is to treat their casts this way.

hey, sorry to add to your post, but i think an important clarification is needed, because crunchyroll did not, in fact, fire Kyle McCarley — what they did is, arguably, much worse. info from above kotaku article, which is in turn heavily sourced from McCarleys own accont

they didnt fire him — he wasnt working for them at the time, given the actors are signed on season-by-season basis. they reached out to him and were willing to pay him a higher, union wage. since he was returning for third season, McCully was willing to work under a non union contract, but he added one condition, that the company will hold a meeting with him and other union representatives to discuss possible future projects/collaboration. he did not ask for them to commit to ANYTHING but a meeting. they have literally GHOSTED him, and when he reached out himself, reinstating that they are only asking for a meeting, nothing more — he was thoroughly denied

so basically, they didnt fire someone for organising — they refused returning work for an actor based on union activity. which imo is even worse, showing utter disregard for an establishment union, and the fact that they have NO PLANS to work with one, or even consider working with a union, because i guess having working conditions where actors dont fuck up their voices is too much for them

tldr they didnt fire him— they refused to re-sign a NON UNION contract because he added one stipulation — that a single meeting with union representatives will be held

so yeah. make a complaint to crunchyroll, if you havent already

Since it’s day 3 of Digiweek and thus all about music, I felt once again reminded of the fact that I absolutely LOVE the German Digimon soundtrack.

Back in the day, they not only translated several original songs into German - they also created their very own original songs for anime shows in the late 90s and early 2000s.

You’ll have the German versions of many songs: 

… But I can definitely recommend listening to the the original songs too - also, interestingly enough, some of them actually have quite a romantic undertone. Some of them can even be found on Spotify as well, which is pretty amazing.

Writing a script is the same job, whether it’s for animation or live action. Nothing about the work changes, except for the pay.

Animation workers in general are paid less than then their Live Action counterparts.

The work is the same, so should the pay.

That autism feel when people say two of your special interests are “Basically the same” or “One is just a rip off of the other” and you have to physically hold yourself back from proving them wrong and going off about all the differences and why the are both as awesome as each other.

Have I talked about how the Spanish dub of 02 decided - for who knows what reason - to turn Iori/Cody into a girl? Well, the Portuguese dub kept that mistake and, as a result, I watched the entirety of 02 fully convinced that Iori was a girl.

The fun thing? This changed absolutely nothing regarding Iori’s personality or relationships with other characters. I never questioned it. I didn’t think anything about how he/she dressed; I just assumed he was a more tomboyish version of Sora. Only now 02 had more girls than boys, a girl had inherited the Digimentals of Knowledge and Sincerity, there was a boy/girl Jogress duo, and a female lawyer at the end.

I don’t know what this says about me as a kid or how important gender is in characters. I don’t know if this would have worked with anyone other than Iori or why the Spanish dub thought they could get away with this.

But remember, everyone someone does a genderbend AU - there’s a dub out there where this was canon.
