If it’s Summer Vacation can someone please please please give me an explanation for why the children are in their school uniforms?
Do they have to have their school uniforms on when they are on school grounds? Why is Daigo at school anyway? Does he teach during the Summer?
I’m actually asking. Does anyone have an understand of Japanese norms when it comes to this stuff?
I really want an explanation for why Daigo is still hanging out at school and why he is wearing his school uniform instead of his government uniform. I’m actually starting to wonder if it’s his normal attire, cause he’s wearing it a lot in Soshitsu:

So, I really do thinkthe lab coat and beige shorts are specifically a school uniform…

As someone who teaches in Japan, let me help! Yes, if you’re on school grounds you MUST be in uniform!! Whether it be club uniform or summer version, uniforms are a must! This is also for when you’re on your way to/from school.
My school is very strict. This means that if you’re at a festival (not a school one, but a community one) you must also wear your uniform. Teachers go to these and will get you in trouble if you aren’t. Also, you must be with your parents (in Tokyo I guess these things are harder to enforce though). It’s common to see kids in uniform every day of the week, including weekends and holidays. There are special advanced classes in holidays (if the kids are good enough/teachers have time) and also remedial lessons (which can be dumb - the non-fluent music teacher at my school is helping kids with English while I just… sit there with no work….). Club is also still on during the holidays and some kids are told they can’t do club unless they finish their homework, so they come to school and do their homework together (homework club lol) and submit it to the teacher. Homework is generally a booklet for each subject, 10-30 pages long. Teachers don’t have uniforms (at least at my school - some of my teachers walk around barefoot in summer holidays). The lab coat is probably the only thing he needs to wear - the wiki says he’s a calligraphy teacher but I don’t know any schools that have a calligraphy class (or would have time for that in the curriculum…) - it’s possibly he runs the calligraphy club and is a science teacher? Not sure. Could just like lab coats lol Also, due to the amount of time people spend at work/school, they tend to have smaller wardrobes. He probably also goes straight from school to government stuff/other stuff, so has no time to change (my coworkers will work from 7-6 and at 7 we’ll have a fancy dinner and they’ll all be in the same clothes from earlier). His government uniform is far too formal for a school, and it would look bad if he out-formaled other teachers. Additionally, the suit and tie attitude in a school that doesn’t make you wear a suit generally means you’re a suck up or want a promotion, which is not really what he wants/can handle right now haha
Daigo could be teaching anything. He could be in charge of a club (likely). He could also have general work to be doing or other duties (maybe he’s in charge of the school lunch menu? website? there’s so many random jobs he could have been assigned to, especially if he’s a new teacher - yay for the hierarchy!). I have to go to school everyday of the holidays (unless it’s a public holiday or something like Obon/New Years). Most of the actual teachers are busy doing something though.
