It is recommended you read the lyrics before or after watching!
This A.M.V. was pretty much made on a complete whim after I heard this thanks to a J.P.N TaiKou fan recommending another by this group as "DEFINITELY a TaiKou song" and let's just say Yes I see a Theme & Patterns going and I am Spilling Koushiro Thoughts Via Analysis by A.M.V. As a result it IS in actuality semi canon compliant to a very strong degree, but please keep in mind the intended pairing is mainly KouTai (though I ship various other Koushiro ships too!)

"That's why I TOOK the PLUNGE" "I hope that {WEAKNESS} that keeps YOU {THINKING ABOUT} ['ME'] / is {still} hurting you even a little-"
"And I hope that you even start to find them {"INEVITABLE"} and be JUST AS SOAKED in these {"EMOTIONS"} as ME."

non-autistic authors write autistic characters all the time. they just don’t realize it. they’d rather not admit it most of the time, either.
the thing is, non-autistic people have met autistic people more than enough times. however, due to their stereotypes about autism, they often can’t identify it as autism. they see something is up, but they can’t put their finger on just what is up.
so they see people like us and they know the ‘archetype’ which is autistic people. they write us all the time: airheaded professors, awkward nerds, pent up geniuses, etc.
when autistic people point out how strikingly obvious it is that this character is autistic, they usually deny it, or at best, they say the character is ‘if anything, extremely high functioning’, which is more of a kick in the gut than a confirmation. we hardly get those, either.
so, here’s the thing: there are some characters that are very obviously autistic to actual autistic people. pearl from steven universe and papyrus from undertale are two of the most agreed upon examples that i’ve seen. nearly ever autistic fan of steven universe i met says, “yeah, she’s autistic”, and the same goes for papyrus.
when we, as a community, bring this up, however, we are shot down. “oh, he’s not autistic.” i once was told that - ironic as it was - my headcanoning papyrus as autistic offended autistic people or hurt autistic people. but i’m autistic and they weren’t.
two autistic people were both agreeing - damn, this character is blatantly autistic - but non-autistic people felt the need to but in and say how horrible it was to “project” onto characters with such a horrible thing.
listen, if you aren’t autistic and you’re reading this -
if an autistic person says a character is autistic, can you just shut up about it?
because if you’ve watched any amount of tv, read any amount of books, whatever - if you’ve consumed stories, there are tons of autistic characters in them.
just because neither you nor the media’s creators knows shit about autism doesn’t mean that the character can’t be autistic.
either way, it’s none of your business.
we have little to none confirmed representation that isn’t terrible and inconsiderately offensively written.

NT Author: *Writes lovingly nuanced character who is quirky, shy, physically sensitive, socially awkward, clumsy, brilliant at a few special topics and has the capacity to grow and learn friendship and love in a nontraditional way*
NT Author: They can’t possibly be autistic!
NT Author: I’m gonna write an autistic character!

Gonna say this as an author:
It is 100% okay to use the phrase “well, they are now.”
If a ton of people approach you with a character you didn’t realize you coded autistic, and they’re like “fuck yeah, autistic character!”
You can 100% say “I didn’t even realize that’s what I was doing, but you know what? Sure. With the number of people who see it, I’m not gonna say no. They’re autistic now.”
Nobody worth having around is going to be offended by that.

given that Autistic & ADHD folks have always existed….like the names we use are modern, meaning that most autistic/adhd people went undiagnosed their whole lives, but they still existed and interacted with people……..
my point is autistic/adhd traits have always existed under other names & therefore autistic/adhd characters have always existed whether their creators knew it or now
storymakers take their influences from life…..and most people have met & interacted with adhd/autistic people….even if they didn’t know the name for it they noticed those neurodivergent traits….. and “unusual” traits & people often get used as inspiration………so yeah i guarantee plenty of fictional characters were inspired by & given the traits of neurodivergent people, often without their creators having a word for what they were observing.
anyway anyone who tells people to stop making neurodivergent headcanons for characters they relate to needs to shut up and suck my toenails
also! i know the point i just made was “shut up about neurodivergent headcanons bc they have a valid basis in reality” but actually what i want to say is “shut up about minority headcanons bc they are valid period”
and what i actually want to say is “shut up about minority headcanons bc they don’t have to be backed up by canon, that is the entire fucking point, they exist specifically bc all sorts of people have been systematically excluded from fictional canon on a mass-scale, aka those characters & traits get censored out during the editing process, so if you have a problem with fans using headcanons as one of their few ways of fighting for representation, i’m just gonna assume that means you personally have a plan to fix the entire fucking system of exclusion from the ground up
im sick and tired of everyone still acting as if autistic people dont exist in todays society or participate in popular subcultures just bc ppl dont want to listen to us talk. we want to be represented as much as everyone else, and actually even more.
i see posts talking about how peter parker is trans with thousands of notes, a lot of them from cis allies. i hear a question about stucky in almost every interview/q&a/con that the cast does. i even see posts like ‘x character is adhd’ with tons of notes because adhd is more socially acceptable than autism. people will break down every aspect of someones character just for tiny hints that they’re trans or gay or whatever, and while i do love trans and gay headcanons being widely accepted, especially by the creators of the content themselves, i still cannot think of one single instance where a character who was coded autistic was confirmed …besides sheldon cooper. i watched bruce banner have basically a meltdown on screen and wrap himself in his shirt, the way i do when i have meltdowns, and no one said a thing. i watched newt scamander avoid eye contact throughout the entire movie, stumble over his words, have a hyperfixation on animals/creatures, etc etc etc and no one said a thing.
i feel like im just shouting into the void here because its still so unfathomable for people to understand that autistic people exist. we’re here, we’re consuming the same media you are, we’re desperate for diversity just like you are. its never even crossed the minds of the creators/actors that the quirky shy awkward character they’ve created is just autistic– because, wait, peter parker doesn’t talk in a monotone voice like spock, how can he be autistic?!!?!?
literally no one. gives a shit. about autistic people. at all. please just listen to us. give our autistic headcanon posts as many notes as your trans headcanon posts. be aware that autistic people who think their favorite characters are autistic aren’t just ‘projecting’ or ‘overanalyzing’, and you shouldnt just humor us because you pity us. realize that autistic people can look many different ways and just because a character doesn’t act like sheldon cooper or spock, doesn’t mean they’re not autistic. just please realize that we exist.
edit: non autistics are encouraged to reblog
Dear people who hate autistic headcanons:
Every character you love is autistic because I said so.
Have a nice day!
Autistic people are welcome to reblog this to piss off ableists who crap on autistic headcanons or send anon hate about them.
you don’t even need any factual backup to headcanon a character as autistic tbh. they don’t need to have whatever you consider to be “common autistic traits”. if an autistic person wants to headcanon a character as autistic because they identify with that character, or because it makes them feel good, or for whatever reason, let them.
I’ve seen allistic people reblogging this post and that actually makes me really happy. thank you for listening to autistic voices stay tolerant and stay lovely
Neurotypicals expect you to justify your autistic headcanons because they can’t fathom the idea of a well developed, well rounded, three to four dimensional character being autistic. They demand that you justify WHY you headcanon them as autistic and they think you’re saying there’s something “wrong” with the character and that you should have to prove it, when that’s not what it means at all. But like, also, I could go off about why I headcanon every character I headcanon as autistic and I’d just be shouting into the void because y’all NTs don’t wanna listen to us infodump. So what’s the point if they’re not going to listen? I have every reason and right in the world to headcanon [x character] as autistic, but even when people explain themselves they STILL get shut down. Y’all neurotypicals are just looking for an excuse to be ableist assholes. I have no obligation to justify my headcanons, or my fucking existence, to any of you.

autistic culture is loving and identifying with odd & awkward & otherwise noticeably different characters for your entire life and only realizing why as an adult
hey fyi there are things i really like about my autism. most of the best things in my life and my favorite things about myself are very much related to my autism & my experiences as an autistic person.
it’s just…more than 1 out of every 54 people is autistic. that number is going to go up as we get better at diagnosing it. there are tens of millions of us. we exist everywhere. autistic people are members of every community, and we’re not going away. being on the spectrum comes with a lot of struggles (many of which are preventable, the result of lack of social accommodation), but it shouldn’t just be seen as something in need of treatment. we’re not something in need of fixing. there are a lot of really good things this world wouldn’t have if it weren’t for the contributions of autistic people–contributions made because of, not in spite of, being on the spectrum. so please stop boogeymaning and othering us. acknowledge our disabilities & need for accommodation while also being aware of the positive things we bring into the world.
talk about this more, please
read this post please. i’m not autistic and i’ve never really met anyone that’s autistic (in real life, that is) but please read this post.
statistically, you’ve almost certainly met someone on the spectrum. but the combination of social stigma and issues with diagnosis make many of us invisible to casual acquaintances. one big reason i’m a fan of autistic headcanons is that many creators create characters with autistic traits without having a name for it, and without realizing the real-life people who inspired these characters were probably on the spectrum.
as someone who didn’t have a word for it until adulthood, there are a number of people I encountered during my upbringing who looking back were probably also on the spectrum. there are simply so many of us. And we deserve to be seen.
