How hard is it to respect “DNI if you’re going to treat my identity like it’s a word you can’t even fully type out”?
Pretty fucking hard, apparently. My block list keeps growing because of the number of people who just can’t respect ‘do not interact with my posts if you censor my identity, which is queer.’
It shouldn’t be that hard. Just don’t talk to me. Don’t respond. You don’t have to reblog my posts. I promise! It’s very simple. Just keep scrolling.
About a thousand times this. Miss me with that ‘Q slur’ bullshit.
One of the really, really frustrating things about being autistic is that you feel like you spend your life trying to reach some sort of unattainable middle-ground:
- We’re criticised for not making enough conversation, but when we do actually really get in to a conversation we are told we’re ‘too intense’.
- We’re often trained to maintain unbroken eye-contact during conversations, yet in reality too much eye-contact is called ‘staring’ and makes people very, very uncomfortable.
- We’re encouraged to ‘express’ ourselves more, yet our actual, genuine emotional reactions are usually deemed ‘innapropiate’ or ‘unnescessary’.
- We’re told to be friendly and confident when approaching new people, but are then warned that we ‘come off too strong’.
- We are told to try and make interesting conversation, but are also taught that speaking about our interests will only ever annoy other people.
- We’re asked to explain our difficulties and anxieties, only to be told that these explanations ‘make no sense’ or that our worries are unrealistic and invalid.
- We’re expected to force ourselves in to social situations that feel overwhelming and draining yet still somehow remain friendly, good-tempered and pleasantly sociable.
- We are encouraged to develop good self-esteem, while at the exact same time being taught that everything about us is wrong.
I don’t hate having autism - I’ve never hated having autism. But I do hate living with the never-ending pressure to attain this mythological ‘perfect’ level of social interaction that simply doesn’t exist in my case.
-We are told to use coping mechanism when we need them, but when we implement them we’re told to stop, act appropriately, and push through the situation “normally”.
“You can criticize something you love!”
Yeah, and you can also get tired of criticizing something you love. You can get completely fed up with it and decide, “You know what? Flaws aside, I love this thing, and I don’t have to waste hours of my life admitting its flaws to strangers on the Internet in order to somehow justify my love of it.” You can get sick of watching others gleefully tear it apart, for no reason other than that it’s popular and they hate that you love it. You can get sick of watching others tearing it apart with good intentions, too.
In the end, it’s just a cartoon, or a book, or a movie. It’s not that serious, and you can enjoy it without hyper-focusing on its flaws. You don’t need to justify your love of something to someone else, least of all a person you don’t even know.
18: A moment that made you happy
The Epilogue.
Yes, I said it. The Digimon Adventure 02 Epilogue made me happy.
I know everyone hates it and wants to watch it burn. I know some of the characters’ future jobs were completely dumb. I know it adds nothing to the actual story. I know it’s gimmicky and tacky and forced.
But as an 10-year-old, the Epilogue left me really happy. Nowadays, I’m more cynical about it … but I still find lots of positive things in it.
I’m not saying the Epilogue is perfect. But I like the concept behind it, and I like most things about its execution. I’m willing to defend it. And considering tri. is coming up (and the only thing we’ve been told about its plot concerns the Epilogue), I think looking at the Epilogue in a fair, open-minded way is more important than ever.
So here’s my thoughts on the infamous final scene of Digimon Adventure 02.
self care is unfollowing people who post negative shit about stuff that makes you happy
self care is blocking two thirds of your own fandom
one day I’ll finally write that ridiculously elaborate fanfiction that I’ve been carefully constructing in my daydreams for months and then you’ll be sorry. you’ll all be sorry.
I love asking people what they think their crest would be.
I hate when people say they love Tamers just because it was dark. Like seriously? That’s what makes it good show? What about the characters? The story? The way the Digimon were handled? There are so many other things to Tamers than just the “scary stuff” that I feel like it does it a disservice to like it just because it was “dark”. You’re not getting the whole experience that way in my opinion.
Adventure’s 20th anniversary is slowly creeping up on us! This is the Digimon Adventure Memorial image. The message at the bottom made me tear up ngl…
what i say: I’m fine
what i mean: the creators of Digimon have crafted a universe so incredibly versatile and expansive that it boggles the mind, in which the fate of multiple Earths is interwoven with the fate of multiple digital worlds across several iterations of time and space; the creatures we refer to as Digimon are implied to have existed prior to the invention of the internet in the form of Japanese yokai and other beings of legend and folklore. This suggests the line between what is artificial and what is real is thinner than we believe today, if that line exists at all. Considering Digimon are also suggested to be born from the wishes and dreams of human beings, the existence of the digital world also points to a universe in which humans have incredible godlike powers of creation, with the ability to manifest their will into both an organic and digital form, which ultimately leads to a final conclusion - “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” (Arthur C Clarke). Therefore, if Digimon are digital, and the line between artificial life and organic life is nonexistent, and technology and magic are the same thing from the perspective of individuals who don’t understand it, then humans have the ability to manipulate the fabric of reality by tapping into the “programming code” that makes up the universe, and the creators of Digimon took this incredible and amazing concept full of potential and used it to make a children’s monster companion anime
I love Adventure and 02 but oof I really wish the other Digimon series got as much love because I really need someone to scream with me about ALL the digimon series without exception
