Author’s Notes: I’m a garbage human who’s only just now had the inspiration enough to finish this. I won’t be surprised if no one even remembers this series. Also this is the last chapter. Bucky Ran straight to the barn and found it empty.
“Y/N!” he called, but the wind and rain drowned out his voice. He cursed and ran his hands through his now soaked hair.
He heard a whinny and snapped his head to the sound.
He ran out of the barn to see Y/N tugging on Star’s lead. The horse was too scared to move through the storm and was shaking its head to try and free itself from YN’s hold.
Bucky ran to her and took the rope from her hands. He pulled the lead down until she could get a hold of Star’s bridle. Even with Y/N tugging, the beast resisted.
Bucky took hold of Star’s mane and hoisted himself up.
“Let go!” Bucky shouted.
Y/N let go and backed up.

“Hey,” she smiled, “Come on in.”
She walked back inside before he could respond or tell her how nice she looked. Clearly she’d showered already which made him feel gross seeing as how he probably smelled like sweat and dirt…again.
“I thought we could have dinner on the back porch.” She called from the kitchen.

Lunch was mostly quiet but there was some small talk. Eventually, Bucky took their plates and washed them.
“Well,” He started as he placed his plate on the drying rack. “Rain has stopped. I figure I’ll get back to the mowing.”
“Actually,” Y/N checked her phone. “I just got a message from the gravel company that they’re on their way.”
“Oh, alright. Did you get the bobcat already?”
She nodded. “It should be here around the same time.”
“Perfect. I bet you’ll be glad to have a gravel driveway.” He smiled at her.
“Anything is better than the swamp it turns into after a heavy rain.”
He chuckled. “I’ll grab the truck and start filling in the pot holes until all that gets here.”
“Okay, perfect. I’ll be here.” She said as she headed for the stairs. “I’ll be able to help for a while but then I have to go get the girls from school.”
Bucky knew that. Somewhat ashamedly, he’d been keeping track of her schedule. On weekdays, she took the girls to school and then ran errands and picked up coffee. Most times she was back before Bucky got there. Then, she’d spend time on the animals and the garden that way she was done before the midday heat. After that, she took an early lunch around eleven followed by about an hour of sitting on the porch reading. Then she’d do house work until she had to pick up the girls at three.

The next week went without a hitch. Bucky would show up at eight, and get right to work mowing the fields. After day four, he had both front fields mowed. He spent the next two days repairing all the holes and broken parts of the fence that lined the front of the property. After that, he cleaned up the fence line by cutting down saplings and removing weeds and vines. He even fixed the mailbox that sat out by the dusty road.
This morning was supposed to be no different but as he pulled up to the house, thunder rumbled. He hopped out of his truck and grabbed his wide brimmed hat. He figured working in the rain might beat working in the early spring heat. He walked over to the tractor but before he could hop on, he heard her.
“Bucky!” She shouted from the porch.
He turned to see Y/N waving him over. He jogged her way and as he reached the steps, the rain started.

I like that Bucky asks her about her husband.. and knowing about that can probably make Bucky understand her more.
