FORBIDDEN LOVE - PART 1
The sound of knuckles against wood caused Rhea to look up from the phone in her hand, a manicured brown arching skyward as she questioned to herself who could possibly be bothering her at this hour. Swinging sock clad feet off the bed and down onto the the carpeted floor, she made her way over to the closed door.
Another quiet rap of flesh to hard wood had Rhea on edge. The hall of fame initiation party wrapped hours ago, most people were asleep by now resting up for day one of wrestlemania 39.
Pressing her palm against the doorframe, she inhaled a shallow breath. Flicking the lock back to unlock the hotel room door, Rhea pulled it back with slight hesitation only to relax immediately as her ocean hues fell upon you.
“Y/N, it’s two am, what are you doing he—?”
Her question fell away mid sentence as she witnesses the red flush to your cheeks, the puffiness of your eyes and the tremor in your palms. Leaning out the door into the empty hallway, she glanced left and right to see if you were alone.
“Get in here…”
Her lengthy finger curled round your wrist to gently tug you into the entrance of her hotel room, your messed bun off curls sticking to your damp skin. Not letting go, Rhea bumped the door closed with her hip before turning to face you.
“… What’s wrong?”
Her free hand was up at the side of your face before you could even blink, the pad of her thumb grazing against your cheekbone to dry the stray tears that clung to your skin.
“I didn’t know where else to go.”
You choked out, your voice thick in your throat. You couldn’t believe how Liv had acted, she’d never raised her voice at you like that before.
“Hey.”
Rhea’s fingers had moved to your chin, tilting your head up only slightly as to gaze down upon you. She looked so soft without her makeup, the depth of her sky blue eyes something you’d find yourself lost in if you gazed into them for to long. Her manicured brows were furrowed in concern, you could tell she was worried. But why?
“I don’t want to bother you.”
You turn your head as to remove it from Rhea’s fingers, pulling your wrist free from the palm that still held it so delicately. Coming here was a stupid idea, you couldn’t even begin to fathom how angry Liv would get if she knew where you were.
“You’re..” Rhea paused, simply watching you.
“You’re not bothering me, Y/N.”
She didn’t move, her voice was low- almost a whisper as if she tried to keep the reply secret. Her muscular forearms crossing over her chest as she exhaled a long breath. You’d heard her response, but you still couldn’t bring yourself to face her. Being alone with her was always so challenging for you, she was captivating and you didn’t want to risk embarrassing yourself with a miss communication.
“What happened, Y/N?
You could hear her footsteps as she approached you slowly, you didn’t move away nor did you move closer. It wasn’t till her palm cupped round your hip that you flinch. The pads of her finger clipping against your hipbone as she spun you round to face her slowly. Rhea’s features were soft; caring. Her ocean hues glistening as she looked down at you with the warmth of the sun.
“You can talk to me, you obviously came here for a reason.” She uttered.
What had happened with Liv was stupid, childlike on her part and you didn’t want to bother Rhea with your drama. It wasn’t like you wanted Rhea knowing what your fight with your bestie had been about, especially considering it was about her.
“It’s stupid, nothing to worry yourself about.”
You take a small step back before sneaking past Rhea in the direction of the floor length mirror. You looked terrible, eyes still puffy and a soft crimson red. Tonight had been stressful, you just needed time away from Liv and as unwise at it was this seemed like the safest place to be.
“Why are you still awake?”
You questioned, not turning to face Rhea but catching her features in the mirror as you wiped under your eyes and inhale a small breath to steady your nerves.
“Couldn’t sleep.”
Was all Rhea said, watching you watch her in the reflection of the glass. You understood completely, you’d heard all about the nerves that came with a big match like what Rhea faced the next day.
“I can go, I should let you sleep.”
Rhea scoffed, shaking her head slightly as her forearms unfurled from across her chest.
“And what kind of a friend would I be, if I let you leave when you’re clearly having a rough night.”
Your mouth opened in playful shock as you spun on your heels to face the taller female. Rough night? Well she wasn’t wrong, but still. Closing the distance between you once more, you bump your hip playfully against Rhea’s in passing as you headed for the couch.
“Where are you going?”
Rhea questioned, her brow arching once more as she gave an intrigued look. You dropped down onto the couch, adjusting the pillow beneath your head before closing your eyes.
“I’m sleeping, as you should be.”
Your eyes remain closed, your breathing shallow as you attempted to relax and bring your heart rate down. The room was silent, peaceful all until the sound of Rhea clearing her throat echoed in your ear, caused your eyes to snap open.
“What the hell!”
You couldn’t stop the laughter that erupted from your chest as you turned to see Rhea sat cross legged on the floor beside you. Her own harmonious laugh joined yours and she pokes her fingertips into the couch by your side.
“You would chose to sleep on a shitty hotel couch, when there is an entire side of bed going unused.”
Your brows raise, the bridge of your nose crinkling as you try to process her statement. Was she asking you to share her bed? No, she couldn’t be. The couch was fine, you didn’t mind at all.
“I’m fine here, Ripley. Go to sleep.”
Closing your eyes again, you lay perfectly still before releasing fake snores from your chest. You hear Rhea chuckle and the shuffle of her getting up before silence return to the room. You remain motionless, you didn’t want to be responsible for the Eradicator’s lack of sleep.
“You leave me no choice.”
Before you could even respond, Rhea had already scooped you off the couch and thrown you over her shoulder. Marching you towards the spare side of the bed and plopping you down, her crystal gaze staring down at you as you sat in complete silence. Unable to process what had happened.
“Now sleep.”
Her voice was musical, yet firm. You daren’t disobey. Instead you bobbed your head and swung your legs up onto the bed before laying back against the small mountain of pillows.
You couldn’t focus as Rhea clambered into her side of the bed, saliva pooled on your tongue faster than you could swallow it down and your heartbeat. There was no way Rhea didn’t hear it. Hammering in your chest like a bird attempting to escape a cage.
Get it together your subconscious screamed, your palms beginning to sweat as you lay perfectly still on top of the covers. All you had to do was relax, Rhea was just another friend trying to cheer you up. Exhaling a quiet breath, you shuffled your legs up against your chest before ducking them into the sheets.
“This is nice of you, letting me stay. I don’t want to keep you awake.”
Rhea simply smiled at you, her eyes glistening in the shine of the bedside lamp. You couldn’t help the smile that tugged at the corner of your lips, Rhea always made you smile. It was just something about her.
“What?” You raise a palm to cover your face, you had to be blushing by now.
“I wouldn’t mind staying awake with you.”
