@lotrweek 2024 — Day III: The Green Earth in the Daylight
The Wild Robot (2024) dir. Chris Sanders
J.R.R. Tolkien, from The Return of the King
An Idril portrait, idk why but I always had a bit of a Barbie aesthetic in mind for her, in the way that she’s pretty in pink and also a strong capable woman ^^
I will take each and every one of these dwarves over an army from the Iron Hills. For when I called upon them, they came. Loyalty, honour, a willing heart; I can ask no more than that.
THORIN II OAKENSHIELD & BALIN in THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY (2012)
I think one of the main failings of modern American fantasy after Tolkien's book was published in the USA is the fact that they all focus on kings and royalty and wars when The Lord of the Rings' overall plot is dependent of common people stepping up to get rid of the evil themselves. The main bad guy is so obsessed with royalty and focusing on Aragorn that he forgets that some guy and his gardener is taking his magical artifact to destroy it.
Hemlock and Niphredil by @thescrapwitch is my roman empire, by which I mean it literally lives rent free in my brain — my absolute favourite LOTR fic ever, both stark and gentle in its unpacking of Elrond and Thingol sharing grief and a love for gardening in Valinor, so I did a little illustration of a scene from it ❤️
- xoxo Balrog "can never be normal about Elrond and Arwen even for a single minute" Balls
OMG this is gorgeous! Thank you so much! I am just in awe of all the details: the tear running down Elrond’s face, the flowers in both their hands representing their lost daughters, their clothes (!!) and the background garden. Absolutely stunning thank you so much!!!
i don't think we talk enough about how much of a absolute cutie samwise gamgee is
like???? no wonder he was able to pull rosie OFC he could!! he just needed a confidence boost . i'm sure half the eligible hobbits in the shire wanted a chance with him he's the hobbit dream!!!
like he can cook he can garden and he's strong?? and a beautiful kind compassionate heart what more do u need !
"...half the eligible hobbits in the shire wanted a chance with him he's the hobbit dream!!!"
And he doesn't realize this! He's so humble! But the Shire elects him as mayor 7 times in a row!
He also has a literal ticket to heaven
SAM IS JUST THAT HOBBIT!!!
and he doesn't EVEN KNOWW he doesn't even know !!! <33
the shire electing samwise (secret ringbearer who has passage to valinor) as mayor 7 times in a row, deeply respecting him and all his experiences
how samwise views himself:
For the first time, Aegon Targaryen looked hesitant.
“Do you truly believe this is necessary?”
“Forgive me, brother, if I answer with another question: do you believe you are going to fulfill your destiny without shedding any blood?”
“No, of course not. But this isn’t the the bloodshed of battle. This…”
The word “kinslaying” hung unspoken above the two of them, as the blade of Dark Sister glistened in the candlelight.
“The gods of Old Valyria devoured their own sons”, said Visenya in a steady tone. “That’s what made them gods. This sacrifice will appease them.”
Finally finished this gift for @naomi-reblogs-stuff! I hope you like it!
guys i love elu thingol a lot. i love the fact that he was good enough for a maia to fall in love with him, and that theirs is the first and only canon union of an ainu and one of the children. i love the fact that his people adored him so much that they refused paradise and the direct protection of literal demiurges because he wouldn't be there with them. i love that even though he's incredibly proud, ancient, experienced, and war-hardened, he actually tries to change his behavior and do better when he sees the error in his ways. i love that he is the first and only elf king in history to adopt a human as his own child
Blue mountains & Utumno
Found drawings from the pre tumblr times in my folders. Still think they are neat.
