Hagen has an eldest daughter complex and I say this as an eldest daughter in real life
it's one big reason why I think he would be besties with “well done, daughter!” girl Brünnhilde

Even though he was basically the size of a pea he still deserved cruel treatment
Alberich according to the Rhine girls
it's because you're always on that damn opera
Fricka berating Wotan between Siegfried and Götterdämmerung
Wotan was not the same since
of all the things I get to read from Ólafur Sigurðarson in his social media it's really the time in his La Scala run as Alberich for Rheingold this year when his radio transmitter that was supposed to be strapped to his chest under the costume slid down to his balls and he spent how long up on that stage getting almost fried between his legs that's not going to move out from my brain so easily as I would have thought
congratulations Óli for your hot little bundle of joy. would suggest Hagen for a baby name
Ólafur Sigurðarson's Wagnerian costume porn run of 2024 continues
Instagram stories by baritone Ólafur Sigurðarson: a shot of his costume from behind (left) and then another upfront (right). The 2024 Teatro alla Scala staging of das Rheingold gives his Alberich a very gnarly look from long twisting horns at the top of long tangling fibers on his head and shoulders. Ólafur and his costume are painted a sickly greenish yellow all over under the bluish light onstage (contrasting the yellow from the audience).
For the front, Ólafur looks like Alberich had just sung for the band GWAR. He faces curtain call and a happy crowd with his hand on his heart and his horns ripped from his head. The costume itself seems to have heavy emphases on segmenting his butt, knees and hips like an insect and giving him washboard abs and a crotch piece that looks like a bug.
Das Rheingold, Teatro alla Scala, 2024. Lying on a stage filled with ripples is bass Jongmin Park, in costume with stilts and a big head over his shoulders as the fallen giant Fasolt. Where, though, are his giant hands? Did his brother Fafner cut them off?

Leipzig really contemplating that the baritone they got to play Wagner's beloved Dutch blorbo this year hails from Iceland and then tossing him this
Ólafur Sigurðarson takes a selfie showing off his much-needed knee braces and a big, floor-length robe with puffy sleeves, part of his costume for Oper Leipzig's 2024 production of Richard Wagner's der fliegende Holländer. The worn-and-torn robe is particularly dark red with shreds of grey adorning it, giving an unexpected impression of lava cooling down after a volcanic eruption.
this robe doesn't say handsome grim reaper of the high seas like the Colorado fit coat with the layered sleeves, mind you, this one says demiurge of the Earth's fucking Hadean aeon. motherfucker went to Muspelheim and snatched himself a souvenir. thank you costume department
and on the right thus is his complete Leipzig 2024 Dutchman look with the ghostly stage makeup!!
I do not know what's going on with his fit underneath the robe, it looks like he's armored and then ash rained down on him? did fricking Surtur possess this once jolly sailor who boldly mentioned the devil's name? I can never know but it slaps
and it's a hand-me-down!!! 😍
A handwritten list of surnames of baritones having worn Leipzig's fliegende Holländer costume. To wit by full name: Iain Paterson, Noel Bouley, Thomas Johannes Mayer, James Rutherford, and Ólafur Sigurðarson (who took picture of the list for his Instagram story and joked about his patronym being written smaller than the previous surnames above).
you know when Yao from Mulan sang “my girl would marvel at my strength, adore my battle scars” I never thought a German opera would replicate the energy
LEFT — from „A Girl Worth Fighting For“ in the Disney animated film Mulan, 1998. Yao sings about his dream girl being able to appreciate his efforts as a warrior; this is depicted as a moving ink artwork where the white-faced girlfriend he lifted in her sleep earlier is putting her hands into and fitting her head through a massive gaping hole in Yao's very torso where all of his internal organs should be. This is just a few frames before you see her actually be sad about that.
RIGHT — from der fliegende Holländer, 2023, DNT Weimar. Pictured are soprano Camila Ribero-Souza as Senta and bass-baritone Oleksandr Pushniak as her towering Dutch crush who looks shocked that he's already dressed down to a huge hole in his white undershirt with red on him. Senta, in a bridal dress, keeps singing and doesn't look like she minds the red on her hands. Whether this is blood in-story I can never be too sure.
me every single time a blondie plays Brünnhilde in a Wagnerian Ring cycle:
Kurwenal is definitely bisexual and by that I mean he's gay for Tristan and hangs out alterously with Brangäne every other night whenever he sees that she's not having a good day with Isolde. Brangäne probably concocts contraceptives for the both of them
Siegfried, Opernhaus Zürich, 2024. Pictured are soprano Rebeca Olvera as the forest bird and tenor Klaus Florian Vogt as the title character. Given that in this staging the bird is just Rebeca with massive wings, she gets to envelop people in them like our inbred himbo Siegfried here for the opera proper,
and unhinged daddy Wotan (bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny) behind the scenes.
if I had a euro for every instance this year that Tomasz Konieczny collapsed in front of a blond soprano whose character is younger than his,
TOP: die Walküre, Bayreuther Festspiele 2024. Featured are bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny in gold as Wotan and soprano Catherine Foster in red and black as Brünnhilde. Wotan is on his hands and knees in front of his favorite Valkyrie who had just walked into the scene.
BOTTOM: Salome, Wiener Staatsoper 2024. Featured are Tomasz Konieczny in blue as Jochanaan and Vida Miknevičiūtė in white as Salome. Jochanaan is on his hands and knees, desperately trying to avoid making eye contact with Salome who kneels to approach him.
every major character in Götterdämmerung is a bisexual disaster who really just happened to choose being a disaster over being bi
(Zürich this is your fault but I can apply it to any staging I see fit)
except Hagen, he's definitely ace
no no I don't care if Brünnhilde's actor is like 68 and Wotan's is 42 she's still babygirl to me. gods can also want to look young. valkyries are literally grim reapers of the battlefield. it took my babygirl that long to bastardize Richard Wagner and so what. she renews my will to live. sit down
