I love them.
Beyoncé’s entire Coachella production proves beyond a shadow of a doubt why the fine arts and humanities are vital to the fabric of our education.
The reason why I say this is because it’s more than the finished product that proves this, it’s the resources she taps to make it happen. Beyoncé could call ANYONE up for a collab and they’d likely drop everything and come running to the studio. But Beyoncé is so much more resourceful than that. She tapped the youth–she tapped her own fanbase, up and coming artists, college students, and locals from the regions she represents consistently in order to put on these shows, go on tour, and put together her visual albums. All of the dancers, musicians, and artists we’d never truly know in the mainstream until Beyoncé shone a spotlight on them. Not only that, but in generating the revenue that she does headlining an event like Coachella, she gives back to the communities she taps for talent every single time. When she released Lemonade, a lot of the profits went towards the city of New Orleans, as well as other charitable organizations in the South. With this show, she gave scholarships to HBCUs and singlehandedly restored the luster and prestige of attending an HBCU. A lot of people are going to benefit from her largesse. Through her art, appreciation for art, and her consistent research and nods to her predecessors and those who have inspired her, she reminds the world that African Americans are a people with a rich and varied culture to be proud of. And she holds herself to a very high standard in delivering this message in varied ways. She doesn’t do interviews frequently, and she tours seldom, but all of her communication from the very first solo album has been through her music. She’s a true powerhouse. She talks to us through her music and her art, and expresses herself with exacting articulation so there’s room enough to wonder, but not enough to twist the truth she tells us. God, I could write about this for ages she’s amazing. Anyways thanks for coming to my TEDTalk.

-”bhagavaan” means God, “iyengar” is one of the two Tamil Brahmin sects
Love Actually is a film I have never seen in its entirety yet have seen literally countless times in parts cause my mom is obsessed with it. I cannot tell most of the actors apart so that plus the ten plots makes it one of the most enigmatic films in my memory and impossible for me to comprehend

Take a moment to think of just,
Flexibility, love, and trust.”
I wasn’t sure if this was a rhetorical question or not but I thought I’d answer anyway. ^^; I didn’t have a brief, I guess it just had to feature characters from the show. I drew some ideas in thumbnail form and then the editor picked which one to develop into an illustration. If you’re interested here’s some different development stages from the OTGW cover.

(In the original draft, the outline of the embroidery was in the shape of The Beast. Wirt and Greg’s heads were the eyes, and the vines and flowers formed the body and antlers, and so on. I had to cut out a lot of the detail because it started looking like a huge florid mess, but The Beast’s shape is still kinda there if you squint, lol.)
First draft
(Still a mess at this point)
Cleaned up pencils, halfway through the gruelling odyssey that was the colouring stage D:
It’s a bit daunting when you don’t have concise directions for an illustration, but I think it turned out okay in the end. ^^ I’m glad you like it!
