St. Louis Art Museum Faces Backlash Over Artwork’s Role in Trump Inauguration

A petition calls on the museum to cancel its loan of George Caleb Bingham’s “The Verdict of the People” for the inauguration luncheon on Jan. 20.

It’s sad that such an iconic piece of American political art is going to be used as a background for Trump’s inauguration. Bingham was a lifelong Whig, and I don’t think he would appreciate Trump using his art to try and legitimize his image.
