Another amazing piece I won in the 2023 round of @fandomtrumpshate. This one is by the incredible arts_and_seabass (IG).

This one has a bit of a context! It's an illustration of two scenes, one from my fic, Carry Me Home, and the other from i know my kingdom awaits by @hell-heron (go, go read it, it's amazing!). The scenes parallel each other somewhat intentionally, as IKMKA is an AU of CMH. Back-to-back shots of two different instances of Theon saving his younger, redhead "foster brother" who looks up to him, Robb Stark in the first and Greydon Goodbrother in the second.

Smiling, Always Smiling by Sarah1281 Rated: G Words: 3,323 Archive Warnings: None Category: F/M Pairings/Characters: Alannys Greyjoy/Balon Greyjoy, Alannys Greyjoy & Theon Greyjoy Summary: Balon is glad to have another heir, and a male one as well, but looking at the child he knew there was something not quite right. He wasn't loud or fierce like his brothers and even Asha and he just wouldn't stop smiling. Alannys could tell him he was being ridiculous all she wanted but somehow he just knew that this was going to be a problem.

A surreally funny little domestic scene that puts a lovely spin on the dynamics of the Greyjoy household! Theon's smile as something that marks him from birth and something everyone is uncertain whether it's a sign of softness or defiance has such an awesome symbolic power.

A Different Tide by VagrantWriter Rated: M Words: 54,081 Archive Warnings: Underage, Rape/Non-Con Category: M/M Pairings/Characters: Theon Greyjoy/Robb Stark; Maron Greyjoy, Rodrik Greyjoy, Asha Greyjoy, Euron Greyjoy, Balon Greyjoy, Victarion Greyjoy, Aeron Greyjoy, Dagmer Cleftjaw Summary: A reversal of fortune leaves Robb as an exiled bastard on Pyke. The circumstances may be different, but one thing remains the same: Theon and Robb are drawn to each other, even as forces beyond their control conspire to tear them apart. Can they survive malicious brothers, unsavory uncles, and court politics where any sign of weakness can get you killed or worse? Or will they end up paying the Iron Price to be together?

A fortune reversal romance/coming of age novel (seriously, look at that word count!) where Robert's Rebellion fails and after Ned is killed in the fighting, Robb is sent to live as an exiled bastard on Pyke, under the guardianship of Quellon Greyjoy. Because the Greyjoys never fought in the Rebellion and their own rebellion doesn't happen, Theon grows up at home, but as a third son, not the heir, and with the menacing presence of his brothers still very much around. Theon and Robb's relationship is well drawn and a wonderful mix of both sweet and angsty. Theon's relationship(s) with his family are also fun, and sometimes at a slightly different angle than we're used to. There is romance, angst, family drama, intrigue, politics and power games. (And Euron being Euron.) The ending is a bit bittersweet but ties up all the loose ends nicely and with hope, and takes exciting turns getting there!

The Ride That Came Before by Phoenixflame88 Rated: G Words: 2,787 Archive Warnings: None Category: Gen Characters: Theon Greyjoy, Catelyn Stark, Ned Stark, Robb Stark, Asha Greyjoy Summary: Theon’s first day in Winterfell. Ned has returned early. The second time Catelyn’s husband returns with a child not her own, and she’s not any less perturbed. Well, perhaps a little.

A very fun external POV on a small Theon fresh at Winterfell, with Catelyn's typical distant suspicious yet tender in spite of herself attitude. It's very interesting to see the hints of the animosity between Riverlands and Iron Islands that exists separately of that between the Iron Islands and the North and how in spite of that Catelyn is able to get through to Theon somehow bonding over their shared experience of being strangers to the North. Catelyn is so believable as a younger less stressed version of the POV we see in the main series, there's not a thought that feels unlike her for good or bad, and its amazing how much Theon's personality comes through despite his silence and avoidance, a really well thought out interaction.

So, I've written something for the first time in months. Not too sure what this actually is at the moment, but I sure as fuck won't question it 🤷🏻‍♀️

🐺🦑🐺🦑

They’re left alone in the yard, Theon and the little redhead. Robb, Theon repeats the boy’s name in his head. He looks to be about five or six years old, with huge eyes and a lot of freckles all over his nose. A bit too young for Theon, but the boy is the lord's oldest son, so he’ll have to do. For a long moment they stare at each other.

“Come, I’ll show you Winterfell,” the boy – Robb – declares, shuffling his feet. He looks excited, as if he can’t wait, and despite being tired Theon shrugs and follows the boy out of the yard, and into another one.

There’s a gate in that yard and Robb leads Theon through. After a few paces they come out – into the strangest place Theon has ever seen.

The ground is covered with moss, except for a footpath that Robb skips down, not looking back. He doesn’t notice that Theon isn’t following anymore, that he’s rooted to the spot, looking around in awe with his heart beating loudly in his chest.

There are trees everywhere. Big trees, with thick crowns that let almost no light filter into the grove – Theon swallows, a chill running down his spine as his gaze falls on the tree in the middle of it all.

It’s big, gigantic even, with blood-red leaves, the white bark as pale as the bones washing up on the beaches of Old Wyk. In the middle of it a face is carved into the bark, as red as the leaves, as if it is leaking blood, and Theon shivers.

This is a place for different gods than the one Theon knows, gods that fit the man who all of this belongs to, dark and cold and frightening.

“Theon!”

The boy’s – Robb’s – voice rips Theon out of his thoughts. He looks for him, finally spotting the curly red hair next to a pond, under a few blind dark windows. Robb is bouncing up and down, waving at Theon to come over.

Theon squints. Next to Robb another someone has appeared, a little smaller than him, with dark curls tumbling around a pale face. One of the lord’s other children, Theon muses as he cautiously walks over. Robb said he’s got a few siblings.

This must be his sister, Theon decides as he comes closer. The girl looks nothing like Robb, more like her father, and Theon hopes this is not the one he’s going to have to marry.

It had been his uncle Rodrik who’d said it, whispering urgently to Theon’s mother as she sat there crying, painting a picture of what Theon's life would look like in the lord's castle. He’ll be treated with honour, the uncle had said. Lord Stark has children of his own, and mayhaps one day…”

His mother’s sobs hadn’t ceased, and Theon had stopped listening after that, suppressing the urge to cover his ears. He didn't want to be treated with honour, he wanted to stay at home.

When he reaches the two children, Theon gives the girl a closer look. She’s wearing boy clothes, just like Asha always does. Dark hair, dark eyes boring into Theon’s, her mouth forming a small pout.

“This is my brother, Jon,” Robb crows, gesticulating wildly. “Jon, this is Theon. He’s going to live here.”

Oh, a boy. A younger son. Theon gives a half-hearted wave, already losing interest. Still, can’t hurt to be nice.

“I thought you were a girl,” he says with a grin. “You have hair like one.”

Robb’s hand flies to his mouth to hide a giggle, and Theon grins wider, satisfied with this reaction. Until his gaze falls on the other boy – Jon – uh-oh. Theon’s smile fades when the boy glares at him, the dark brows gathering over his eyes, glittering with – is that boy crying?

Theon frowns, confusedly opening his mouth to ask what’s wrong, when suddenly the boy turns, running away along the path, and out of the Godswood before Theon can say a single thing.

“Oh no,” Robb says, his shoulders drooping. “Jon is weird again.” He sighs, gathering something – a small cloak, Theon realizes – from the ground, dusting it off. “I’ll go and look for him. "Are you coming?”

Not waiting for an answer Robb marches away, and with a shrug Theon follows. The other boy will calm down again, and then they’ll start afresh. Or not. Theon doesn’t really care either way.

Aquamania by dehautdesert Rated: M Words: 13938 Archive Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Category: M/M Characters: Aeron Greyjoy/Euron Greyjoy Summary: Aeron is in the Drowned God's Watery Halls once more, receiving guidance on what to do about Euron. Or is he?

An incredibly disturbing trip to the Watery Halls for Aeron for fans of onyric atmospheres and Lovecraftian horror. The symbolism in his visions of Victarion, Asha and "Reek" is so intriguing and fitting and his flashback of the five brothers in their youth conveys the tensions inside the older generation so well. The most horrifying and fascinating element is the dynamic between Aeron and Euron, we see all the claustrophobic misery of Aeron being made into something his brother can use and feels allowed to be proud of and its very effective!

Here with me by Anonymous Rated: T Words: 4519 Archive Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Category: F/M Characters: Theon/Jeyne Summary: We are never here. We are always almost there. Moments of a life in Braavos.

A very tender post-canon daydream where Theon and Jeyne go to Braavos with Tycho Nestoris and are allowed a bit of respite, though torn between the temptation to go home and the desire to just adapt to a more peaceful life elsewhere. It's at the sweet spot between romance and friendship where all the mutual support and tenderness is platonic but the dream of romance is just within reach and the longing there is just beautiful. The narration in little timeless snapshot has such a dreamy artistic quality that works so well for Theon's pov and the mysterious atmosphere of Braavos, and the concept of Theon teaching Jeyne how to swim is so sweet and intimate!

The world disappears and suddenly he finds himself gravitating in arms. Not being able to differentiate between the touches of the water and hers. After all, she is just as fluid, just as strong and just as relieving.

This Love Feel I (That Feel No Love In This) by @alleyskywalker Rated: G Words: 15,041 Archive Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence Category: Gen Characters: Theon Greyjoy, Maron Greyjoy, Asha Greyjoy, Aeron Greyjoy, Rodrik Greyjoy, Dagmer Cleftjaw, Alannys Harlaw Summary: By the time Theon returns to Pyke after ten years in Winterfell, he's forgotten or chosen to forget much of the details of his childhood. He cannot bring himself to remember his brothers fondly, but as it often happens, and to Theon especially, the truth is a little more complicated.

A beautiful character study of a terrifying family dynamic. This fic is about Theon and Maron and is aware that to talk about them it has to also be about Maron and Rodrik and about Rodrik and Aeron and about Aeron and Urri and about Aeron and Balon and about Rodrik and Victarion about Theon and Asha and about all these kids and the shadow of the rest of the Iron Islands, which is both a judgemental presence and a wild jarring introduction to the idea that maybe, somewhere, there are families where people love each other and life doesn't have to be this hard. The bullying, the competition, the cycle of violence and dismissal and yet craving for affection is all delineated so painfully and climaxes in a very touching moment shortly before Maron's death, where Theon finds how hard it is to reconcile love and anger, desire for revenge and desire to fix things

And The Tears, They'll Fall Like Rain by underground_lurker Rated: M Words: 4100 Archive Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence Category: Gen Characters: Aeron Greyjoy, Urrigon Greyjoy, Euron Greyjoy, Balon Greyjoy, Lady Piper|Quellon Greyjoy's Wife Summary: As Robert's Rebellion draws to a close, Aeron and his brothers mourn the death of Urrigon.

This follows a young Aeron around the time of Urrigon's death and does so excellently, his anger and loneliness just pop off the page and the determination with which he fights with all his limited power as a 13 year old, even facing Euron, to give Urri the burial he would want is so touching and admirable. The author put so much thought and care in every relationship within the Greyjoy family and it really shows, it's an excellent portrayal of a family broken in two by the political and personal rift between Quellon and his sons after his remarriage, and of the way a child navigates that. It's so interesting how Aeron grows to idolise Balon because at least he's the only person who listened to his point of view and gave Urri justice, twisted as it was. Really heartbreaking and interesting.

Bad Blood and Burned Castles by agiaoftyrosh Rated: M Words: 34,042 Archive Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Category: M/M Characters: Theon Greyjoy/Domeric Bolton Summary: “prompt: Theon Greyjoy finds a place he can call home (you did say any place) Domeric Bolton returns to his childhood home to find nothing as he expected. Theon can relate.

An excellent longfic with a terrifying, high stakes and exciting plot with so much conflict and moral dilemmas, despite the happy ending. This Domeric is such a lovingly crafted character who fits both with what kind of person house Bolton would have created and with what Theon needs right now so well. It's particularly very interesting to see the external perspective on Theon's crimes of someone who isn't loyal to the Starks but who does judge them morally, and their different experiences of being alienated from their families through fostering is a great bonding experience. His efforts to protect him from his brother are so sweet and this is extremely satisfying both as a romance and as introspection/redemption. Bonus points for a great Kyra and Jeyne!

Hey, Brother by @redrikki Rated: G Words: 1194 Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Category: Gen Characters: Theon Greyjoy, Ned Stark, Robb Stark, Jon Snow Summary: “My sons will be your new brothers,” Lord Stark promised Theon, but it was a bit more complicated than that.

A really effective childhood ficlet with a gut punch of foreshadowing at the end. Theon trying to use the framework of sibling relationships he's used to to figure out how to interact with the Stark kids and falling a little short because it's so different is so funny and sad at the same time and such a clever use of child logic, feels very true to the impossibility of the situation.

The Best Song Yet To Come by treegoats / @nosafeanchorage Rated: T Words: 1946 Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Category: Gen Characters: Theon Greyjoy, Wex Pyke Summary: Wex and Theon meet again.

Besides an incredibly sweet reunion, this is such an interesting look at ironborn culture (and a very funny external pov on some members of house Greyjoy) through the very snarky pov of a lowborn child and it feels really fresh and past the sometimes onedimensional portrayal in the books, with the different perspective and focus on the importance of oral history. The dynamic between Wex and Theon is such a touch of pure sweetness in the bitterness of the circumstances, Wex's oddly complete trust and loyalty feels perfectly justified and Theon struggling to break the cycle and give him all the validation and affection he has to give is so genuinely touching.

For such a short piece, there's so much worldbuilding and characterization in here! It's a lovely, sad and vivid picture of the squidlings practicing an inronborn religious/cultural ritual, bonding as family, and preparing for a future that they can sense will be difficult but really can't imagine just how difficult. The details of the ritual and prayer and really well thought through and make complete sense, and the bits of characterization in how Asha and Theon handle certain…parts of the ritual are really telling. Just a fantastic snapshot of these two ont he eve of the of Balon's Rebellion.

Riverwife by Alley_Skywalker / @alleyskywalker Rated: G Words: 1925 Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Category: Gen, F/M Characters: Asha Greyjoy, Edmure Tully, Theon Greyjoy Summary: After the Greyjoy rebellion was defeated by the Iron Throne, both of Balon's living children were taken as hostages, but while Theon would spend the entirety of his time at Winterfell, it was deemed proper for Asha to be married off to a loyal greenlander lord once she came of age. Four years into her marriage to Edmure Tully, heir to Riverrun, Asha prepares for even more changes in her life.

A very grey, melancholy take on what might have been a very possible outcome of the Greyjoy rebellion. The outcome of the arranged marriage, with the extremely imperfect and petty coming together on both sides is just so realistic and so is Asha's pov on it, appreciative of the measure of kindness and happiness she found but never fully past the prisoner mindset. The look at what Theon and Asha's relationship in these circumstances would be like is so deep even thought it's mostly onscreen, suggesting so subtly what kind of codependency was formed between them before they were separated and the childishly unrealistic mutual expectations they have of each other's ability to resist.

Songs the Drowned Men Sing by originally Rated: T Words: 854 Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Category: Gen Characters: Dagon Drumm. Maester Kirth Summary: The story of Dagon Drumm, excerpted from Songs the Drowned Men Sing by Maester Kirth

A very fun little piece of metafiction/book within a book going deeper in one of the many creepy little details GRRM just left for us on the pages of The World Of Ice and Fire without elaborating. The way the author went for Dagon Drumm's not better specified necromancy endeavors is so existentially terrifying and fits so well with the theology of the Drowned God and the pastiche is delightful.
