probably a dumb question but what is the program or brush that you used for your chicken falin drawing? your art is phenomenal by the way, hope you're having a good day!

Not a dumb question at all! I assume you mean this drawing, right?

The program I use is Clip Studio Paint; as for brushes, I'll just dump all the brushes I use into a folder here.

These are mostly all brushes from the default library or free brushes I found online, but with the pressure and blend settings adjusted to be much more sensitive (my wrist gets tired if I have to press down really hard all the time). Pretty much my number one tip is to mess around with the pressure settings to see what feels better for you - I've never downloaded a brush without modifying those settings.

For the falin sketch, I used the design pencils to do lineart - the "design pencil" for sketching, and the "darker design pencil" for lining. And then the light gray fill is just any of the pens that CSP comes with.

For painting, these days I mostly use the "gouache blend" brush, but I've also used the "perfect oil paint" before. The "magda's" brushes are good for filling large areas or getting smoother gradients.

Hopefully that's helpful! Feel free to ask if you've got any more questions.

your imperial radch art has changed my brain chemistry on a fundamental level. i just wanted to thank you for introducing me to ann leckie! are there other books you'd recommend? (i really liked her fantasy standalone, the raven tower. i'd also recommend the murderbot diaries (cyborg just wants to watch tv but must do sci-fi nonsense) and the splinter in the sky (which certainly has its flaws but is also a fun anti-colonial tea-laden space opera))

Ouuuughh thank you!! I love imperial radch so much and I am very happy that I've managed to convince anyone else to read it >:) I am also big into the murderbot books, but have not heard of The Splinter in the Sky - I'll add it to my list!

As for my own recommendations.. hmm.. anyone who scrolls thru my blog can see that I'm a big Locked Tomb fan, but I'd definitely only recommend it if you're down for weird campy lesbian drama science fantasy. I really liked Space Opera, which is very goofy and is basically Eurovision in space. I'm currently reading She Who Became the Sun (historical fantasy set in Yuan dynasty China) and I'm enjoying it a lot - though I don't know if I ought to recommend it if I haven't finished it yet :P

Hi! I love your recent art of various dnd races, it's really cool and unique. I have a question, did you base the races off of animals or no? (Are you gonna do more dnd races too?)

Hey, thanks! Yeah, a few of them are inspired by real world animals. I have:

Orcs - wild boars + pigs (pretty heavily inspired by Dungeon Meshi's take on orcs, which I love)

Elves - lemurs, deer

Halflings - lagomorphs (pretty much rabbits and pikas)

Goblins - kind of bats, but also Just a Little Creachure

The rest of them aren't all that specifically based on one animal or another. Dwarves have whiskers because it makes sense to navigate narrow spaces.

I might do more dnd races in the future, if the spirit moves me! Mainly I just wanted to touch on the ones that I figure would have ""naturally evolved"", so no tieflings or aasimar who are shaped by like magic bloodlines or whatever.

hi there! do you have commissions open by any chance?

Hi! Thanks for asking! Unfortunately I do not have commissions (or really plan on opening commissions), as I only really get to do art in my down time :,)

Hello! Your scythe character is really cool and I wanted to just ask if you'd be ok with someone using a similar concept with the scythe head for their own tabletop rpg character? (Or just their own character in general?)

Hi! I'm totally fine with it if it's a private game with friends, although if the game is published in some way (like podcast or livestream) then I'd prefer it not to be used. Thanks for asking!!

Hey just out of curiosity what sort of materials did u use for that lovely fore edge painting? It looks super nice id love to try it myself one day :0

Hey, thanks!! The painting itself is just watercolor, and the gilding I applied with heat activated foil (the type they use for like embossed wedding invitations) and an iron.

I am planning on putting up a much more detailed tutorial in the coming weeks... so keep your eyes peeled!

In the meantime I do have some sources that I used when getting started:

for the overall painting process: https://imgur.com/gallery/3IU6F

for gilding pages specifically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOhSF7_Dq4c

Your art is incredible! would you ever consider posting something about your process (e.g. brushes used or a speedpaint for example?)

Hey, thanks!! I use Medibang for digital art, because it’s free lol. I tend to go pretty basic with brushes:

For linework I use this pen, which comes with the program, and for painting I use the acrylic brush.

This is also a default brush that you can download from the Medibang cloud or something, but I did play with the settings to increase the color mixing. It’s helpful to use it with the eyedropper tool to blend colors.

Hope that’s kinda helpful! I might record a speedpaint someday too, if I ever figure out the technology for it lol
