The little exchanges like this between the Doctor and his companions are a big part of why I fell in love with this show, because they were so real. The Doctor was a leader, yes, but he was also their best friend, and it showed. They loved him, and he loved them back.
I can just imagine Nine and Jack and Rose walking through some alien bazaar, looking at the wares. Jack, once he’s sure the others aren’t paying attention to him, makes a beeline for the most rediculous-looking clothing he can find, and the others turn around a minute later after examining little jeweled crabs or native jewelry to find him wearing a badly-fitting pink and orange bra over his coat. The Doctor, once he finishes laughing, grabs Jack’s new bra and stuffs it in his pocket, muttering something about ‘bloody apes’ and how he ‘can’t go anywhere without them doing something indecent’. Rose can’t look at Jack without giggling for the rest of the day, much to the Doctor’s - joking - annoyance and Jack’s absolute delight.
That’s what makes me love these three so freaking much: the playful, loving acceptance.

Because it has Jack openly showing his affection and admiration for two people of different gender in the exact same way, making no difference at all, and neither do Rose nor the Doctor. Zilch. No hesitating, no flinching, no comic relief.
I wish it could be like this more often.

That scene up there is doing everything right, end of story. And while Jack’s sexuality is often made out to be something to smile at, it’s also shown as very natural and Nine was just cool with that, no reason not to be.

I remember all the Doctor Who fanfics I used to read where Rose often got badly stereotyped as a damsel in distress whom the Doctor had to swoop in and save and smooch but the way I remember Doctor Who 90% of their relationship was the Doctor just setting Rose loose on people who had done something to offend them and sitting back giggling in the corner as she shouted
