Forever gutted by the fact that Arthur just did all that despite barely knowing about any of the stuff Merlin did for him. My pure boy with his heart of gold.
neither nimueh nor uther knew of the price for arthur's life but uther wanted him enough to risk it and ended up losing the love of his life. merlin didn't know the price for putting arthur's life over magic, but he wanted arthur to live badly enough to risk it and ended up losing him. the parallel is insane and it's always been over arthur's life. ygraine's life was the price for uther's mistake and arthur's life was the price for merlin's. uther and merlin both unknowingly condeming the people they love. I'm going insane if you haven't noticed.
No op you get it. The parallels between Uther and Merlin are actually insane especially when you take into consideration how they are both powerful men who lost the person dearest to them as a result of their actions and choices and as a result had to live with the aftermath of that. Their parallels make me go feral.
Adding on to this the parallels of Arthur and Ygraine are just *chefs kiss* like aside from the very obvious physical resemblance Arthur has to his mother they both died young as a result of magic and someone else's choices. They were both seen as good and just people while their counterparts (Uther and Merlin) were willing to do increasingly messed up things in their name.
I imagine Merlin having a cat mum and a bird dad, a tiny kitten with wings, a very magical bebe who'll eventually shape-shift into a human.
Aww!!! This is so cute!!

I fully believe Merlin (assuming he saved Arthur at Avalon) wouldn't become a court sorcerer or anything. Like, yeah, he's the magic expert, but the unofficial one. Merlin feels he was born to serve Arthur, and I don't think Arthur knowing his magic would stop that.
5x09 With all my heart
i feel like we didn't talk about this scene enough??? (i can't believe this scene also walked out my mind ajjajsfjh) it's CRAZY how arthur is willing to cut off his own limb to save merlin and gwen in this situation. that arm is gone if mordred didn't come 😭

— "He's given his life to this kingdom. He would never betray you." — "Then explain his actions." — "All right. They're lies. Gaius would never run off in the night." — "Look, I know it's hard. But no break ins were reported. His possessions are missing. A horse has been stolen."
MERLIN | 4x07 “The Secret Sharer"
No, but you don't understand.
Agravaine is to Arthur what Gaius is to Merlin.
(I know its not the same, but that is what Arthur believes they are/could be)
So, Arthur has a choice. Either HE is being betrayed, again. Or Merlin is. And I think at this point, he can't deal with another betrayal. I mean, how realistic is it that it happens three times in a row in his family? If Agravaine is betraying him, then Arthur is the defining factor, then he MUST be at fault.
And it's not like Gaius betrayal DOESN'T hurt Arthur. He's known the man all his life! If it's Gaius, then Arthur and Merlin can grief together.
If it's Agravaine, then Arthur is alone.
This isn't a conscious decision he's making, it's all internalised and subconscious.
All evidence points against Gaius and Arthur knows that pain and feels it too. That's why he doesn't blame Merlin for not believing it and for being angry and for throwing around accusations. Arthur has done the same before. But Arthur has been betrayed so many times that he can't just look away and trust in Gaius when he has all this evidence.
This scene breaks me every time because it shows how damaged Arthur is. For having to live through all that pain, by having to hurt Merlin and by then being suggested that he's the one who is being manipulated. Merlin is hurting him too and he knows why because he's been through it and he hates that it's happening.
We know Merlin is right and we know Gaius. And we know that Agravaine is way too obvious of a shady character to not be the culprit. But Arthur doesn't know that. Arthur sees his uncle who stepped in to help and did nothing but, since he came to Camelot. It's badly written at this part, but it really hits home in that scene.
Arthur is losing an old friend
His best friend is mad at him
Arthur has to hurt his best friend
And if it wasn't like that, than he'd be alone in his grief over Agravaine, lose all his self confidence (as he later does when Agravaine shows his true colors), probably lose Merlin as well (for the false accusations) and maybe even doom his kingdom.
I feel so much for this boy. Like damn, Arthur, you poor summer child.
