Pitch Perfect 3 (2017) → The Riff-Off I love the ease with which Beca and Chloe sync up in this part of the riff-off. I like to think years of living together, particularly with their musical chemistry and closeness, made for a lot of singing together and comfortableness with each other. It all comes out so naturally in moments like this. Yes all the Bellas are backing Chloe up as she sings “Love Me Harder”, but there is something enchanting in the way Chloe gravitates towards Beca no matter what she does.

things i like about this scene:
- how easily aubrey slips back into leader mode
- beca being obnoxiously smiley/giddy for whatever reason when aubrey says “divide and conquer” (hint: it’s because she’s a bottom)
- beca doing a finger gun/point thing at aubrey because she’s a nerd!!
- the way beca and chloe, without any verbal cues, accept that they are going to be partners
- the way everybody else doesn’t even QUESTION that pairing
- the hint of chloe’s smile directed at beca as they leave
- i love how aubrey takes emily under her wing instinctively
- how nobody wants to be partnered with amy

What I love most about this interaction is that it shows how vastly different Beca, Chloe, and a reformed Aubrey are as leaders. Chloe is all about passion and immediacy, Beca is kind of insecure, and Aubrey is a mediator between them. I also like that it shows that Beca can get snippy and maybe so can Chloe, but the way that Chloe immediately crosses to Beca’s side just makes me feel all kinds of things. They’re soft. Aubrey just needs them to get along, she’s tired of hearing about all the Bechloe drama from everybody.
