your tags on that 'we're lightwoods' gifset made me cry because YES SO MUCH THIS. magnus's Big Damn Heroes moment is fantastic but that moment where they both think they're about to die, but they're going to do it together and they're going to go down fighting, my heart.

So, if you didn’t see it the tags in question are on this post with Alec and Izzy getting ready to face the demons in Alicante before Magnus shows up. I just have so many thoughts and feelings about that moment. The first watch-through, caught up in the moment and immediately distracted by Magnus showing up to save the day, be adorable and, you know, that whole proposal thing, it’s easy to write it off as simple overconfidence. To hear “It’s no problem, we’re Lightwoods” as a declaration of ‘we were raised to be the best obviously we’ll beat this’. 

But really?  You can see it in their eyes, in the worry written all over both of their faces, but Izzy’s in particular (Alec always was better at putting on that mask). You can hear it in their tones. They’re afraid. Truly afraid. They know this is bigger than them, they’re afraid it’s bigger than all of them. But this is what they’re trained to do.It isn’t about self-preservation in the face of an enemy you can’t beat, it’s about fighting until the very last moment and taking out as many demons as you can along the way. “It’s no problem, we’re Lightwoods” isn’t a cocky statement, it’s one of resignation. This is what they were trained to do - this is what they were born to do. They’re Lightwoods. They’re Shadowhunters, expected to live short and dangerous lives. So they stand and they face an enemy they’re certain they can’t beat, but they’re going to try anyway. Maybe they come out the other side alright, and maybe they don’t, but they’re going to do all they can to help up until their very last breath.
