BTB2020: That’s a wrap!

We are very excited to announce that Banned Together Bingo 2020 has now wrapped!

BADGES

Badges are being sent now! You will receive a badge in your inbox shortly if you fulfilled any of the criteria listed below. Each participant who filled one or more squares will receive one badge. The only exception is if you completed the optional “Gen-tle Giant” badge on your Gen-tle Giant card, and also completed the Above and Beyond badge on your main card, in which case you will receive both the Gen-tle Giant and Above and Beyond badges.

If you do not receive the badge you expected, it’s possible that we sent you a tag change request that was not fulfilled. Please check your inbox for any emails from us, and email us back with any lingering tag changes so we can credit you accordingly. If you cannot find any tag change request emails, please email us again with the link to your work. You have until April 15, 2021 to make any necessary changes.

THE COLLECTION

FUTURE PLANS

As you can see, it is now a quarter of the way into 2021, which only gives us 2-3 months to plan for the next round. Thus, we will be taking a break in 2021. However…

We will be coming back in 2022 with a brand new round of Banned Together Bingo! We’ll be making some changes to the event based on all the participant feedback from this round, including a revised prompts list and a revised Do Not Want (DNW) policy. Remember, if you’d like to send us suggestions, please use the feedback form. All feedback is appreciated, including ideas for prompts! Compliments are welcome too. The feedback form will remain open until May 1, 2021. 

OUR GRATITUDE

We want to thank every single one of you for weathering the storm and adjusting to the ups and downs of our first round. As moderators, we all learned and grew tremendously during the year-long running of this event. Our goal was to provide a space for fan creators to explore topics that have been blanket-banned at some point in time. We also wanted to show people how tags can be used to curate their fandom experience and help them make informed decisions about the content they interact with. We hope we were able to accomplish that.

Sign-Ups Closing Saturday, May 23!

This is your friendly reminder that sign-ups for the Banned Together Bingo 2020 are closing this Saturday, May 23, 2020! Please get your sign-up forms in by the end of day on May 23. Don’t forget to double-check the following before you submit:

Remember, the fandom question on the form is just so we can get an idea of which fandoms we need to read for when we vet tags. You are not beholden to write for the specific fandom/s you checked off and you are allowed to change your mind about the fandoms.

Welcome to Banned Together Bingo 2020! Sign-ups are OPEN!

Signups will remain open through May 23. As a refresher, take a look at our prompts list, rules, schedule, and FAQ. Cards will be sent out starting May 9 through the email you signed up with. If you need to swap out prompts on your card, that form will go live then as well (instructions will be in the email!).

You may submit works to the AO3 collection any time from May 9–December 31, 2020, and your work will be accepted into the collection after moderators have approved the tags (this process might take some time, please be patient!). Remember, you’ll need to submit a work submission form for each fill as well—otherwise we can’t keep track of completed fills!

What is the Banned Together Bingo?

Banned Together Bingo 2020 is a pan-fandom event shining a spotlight on censorship! This bingo aims to shamelessly celebrate fanworks featuring banned topics while educating participants on the long, absurd, ongoing history of censorship. All you have to do is create a fanwork around the given bingo prompt and tag the work appropriately. Here, you won’t be asked to justify why you wrote a particular ship or about a particular subject, nor will you be harassed or suspended for exploring matters of a less-than-savory nature. Just be courteous to your moderators and other participants, and have fun creating whatever your id, your mind, or your heart desires!
